Mayhem Night Trail : McDowell Mountain Regional Park, Fort McDowell, AZ
Mayhem Night Trail is a night trail running event scheduled for Saturday, December 5, 2026 at McDowell Mountain Regional Park. The race is held after dark and runners navigate the desert terrain using headlamps and moonlight. Distances offered include:
- 25K
- 10 Mile
- 5 Mile
The start and finish are based out of the Competitive Track Area just beyond the park Ranger Station. The event is part of the Insomniac Night series and mirrors the Fall Desert Runner Trail Series. Mayhem occurs the same day as the McDowell Mountain Frenzy day races, and participants who finish distances at both events are eligible for a Double Down Challenge medal.
Course marking uses orange plastic ribbons with black polka dots, reflective medallions, laminated signs at junctions, and blue and white checkerboard flagging to mark wrong way trails. Aid support includes one full remote aid station called Gate Aid plus a water only station on the loop. Aid station supplies listed include water, ice, electrolyte drinks, salty and sweet snacks, fruit, pb&j, bean rollups, and hot food options.
Crews are allowed only at the start and finish. Pacers are not permitted. Drop bags are available at the start/finish area. MedStar Solutions medical staff will be based at the race headquarters. The park charges a $10 entry fee per vehicle. Pets are prohibited on course and must be leashed at the event. The event will be cupless and reusable cups will be available for purchase.
