Mayhem Night Trail - McDowell Mountain Regional Park

Mayhem Night Trail is an evening trail running event at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in Fort McDowell, AZ. The race is held on marked desert trails and takes place under headlamp and moonlight. Distances may vary slightly each year due to permitting.

The start and finish are located at the Competitive Track Area near the park entrance, just beyond the ranger station. Course markings include orange plastic ribbons with black polka dots, reflective medallions, laminated signs at junctions, and blue and white checkerboard flagging to indicate wrong-way trails. Runners are encouraged to review course maps and use GPX files or printed maps.

Aid support includes one full remote aid station (Gate Aid) and a water-only aid station passed each loop. Aid stations are stocked with water, ice, electrolyte drink options, salty and sweet snacks, fruit, pb&j, bean rollups, and hot food such as quesadillas and grilled cheese. Crews are allowed only at the start/finish area. Pacers are not allowed for any distance. A designated area for drop bags is available at the start/finish.

MedStar Solutions medical staff are based at the start/finish to provide first aid. The park charges a $10 entry fee per vehicle (as of 1/1/26). Pets are not allowed on-course during the night runs and must be leashed and supervised if present at the event. Six night trail races in Maricopa County parks April to September, with distances from 5 to 75 kilometers, series passes offering a 20 percent discount and points-based awards.

A monthly Friday evening 5K series at Arizona Falls with live chip timing, three collectible desert-themed medals, and a virtual option. The events raise funds for Child Crisis Arizona.

A free community run at Piestewa Peak where participants climb the summit repeatedly during a six hour window. On-course refreshments, giveaways, and Everyday Ultra coaches run alongside participants.
