Malvern Hills Ultra

The Malvern Hills Ultra is a trail running event based at Abberley Village Hall, WR6 6AZ. Entrants choose from multiple point-to-point or out-and-back distances that share the same mapped route on the Worcestershire Way. The full route is an out-and-back of just over 47 miles with a total ascent of about 2,941 m (just under 10,000 ft).

Available distances:

  • 47 miles
  • 38 miles
  • 31 miles
  • 23 miles

Navigation is self-led; organisers provide downloadable maps, route directions and a GPX file used for all distances. The course uses the Worcestershire Way signage where present, and the event offers designated pacing groups called Time Lords who aim for specific finishing windows.

Five staffed checkpoints are provided on the full route to record times, monitor competitors and offer food and drink. Each race has checkpoint cut-off times and an overall maximum race allowance of 13 hours; competitors who miss cut-offs will not be allowed to continue. Competitors must carry mandatory kit including a map, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food. All entrants must be 20 years or older.

Entries are non refundable and include a contribution to the Malvern Hills Conservators. Transport to remote start locations can be booked for a fee. Finishers receive a bespoke MHU medal and a commemorative technical T-shirt, mug or hat; trophies and further prizes are awarded for race winners in specified categories.
