The Malvern Hills Ultra

The Malvern Hills Ultra is a multi-distance out and back race based at Abberley Village Hall, Worcestershire. The full route follows the Worcestershire Way to Sally’s Place, British Camp, then returns along the same course. The organisers provide a GPX file and recommend competitors use it for navigation.

Entrants may choose from the following distances:

  • 47 miles
  • 38 miles
  • 31 miles
  • 23 miles

The 47 mile course records an ascent of 2,941 m and a matching descent; this total ascent is described as just under 10,000 ft. Shorter distances start at intermediate control points on the same route: The Admiral Rodney (CP1), Suckley Post Office (CP2) and Sally’s Place (CP3). Checkpoints are placed along the route to monitor times and well-being and to provide water and some food. Competitors are responsible for ensuring each checkpoint records their race number.

All entries are non refundable. Entry fees include a contribution to the Malvern Hills Conservators. The event operates with checkpoint cut-offs and a maximum overall race allowance of 13 hours. The race requires self-navigation; mandatory kit includes a map, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food and a basic first aid kit. The event is cup free so competitors must carry a reusable cup. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
