The Malvern Hills Ultra

The Malvern Hills Ultra takes place on 2 May 2026 with start and finish at Abberley Village Hall, WR6 6AZ. The full route is an out-and-back that predominantly follows the Worcestershire Way, turning at Sally’s Place, British Camp, and returning to Abberley.

Entrants may choose from the following distances:

  • 47 miles - out-and-back, ascent 2,941 m
  • 38 miles
  • 31 miles
  • 23 miles

The course is self-navigation on waymarked Worcestershire Way sections; organisers provide downloadable maps, route directions and a GPX file. Checkpoints are positioned along the route to monitor competitors and supply water and food; some sections include unmanned punch points using a punch-card system. The event is cup-free so competitors must carry a reusable cup.

Timelord pacers run to set hourly target paces and offer navigation assistance. Mandatory kit is required and random bag checks may take place; the advised items include a backpack, Ordnance Survey Map 150 or GPX, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food and a basic first aid kit. All entrants must be 20 years or older on race day.

Entries are non-refundable; fees include a contribution to the Malvern Hills Conservators. Finishers receive an official MHU medal and a commemorative item such as a technical T-shirt, mug or hat. Failure to pass or record at designated checkpoints may result in disqualification. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
