Event Overview
The Malvern Hills Ultra is a multi-distance trail running event that primarily utilizes the Worcestershire Way. The 2026 edition features an out-and-back course for the longest distance, starting and finishing at Abberley Village Hall. Participants can choose from four distinct distance options:
- 23 miles (37 km)
- 31 miles (50 km)
- 38 miles (61 km)
- 47 miles (75 km)
The 47-mile route involves a total ascent and descent of approximately 2,941 metres. While the route follows the signposted Worcestershire Way, runners are advised to use provided GPX files and maps for navigation. The course includes five checkpoints for the full distance, with point-to-point starts for the shorter races.
Participation and Logistics
Entrants must be at least 20 years old on race day. The event has a maximum time limit of 13 hours. "Time Lords" are available to lead groups at designated paces to assist with navigation and timing. Mandatory kit requirements include a backpack, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food, and a first aid kit.
The event operates a "cup-free" policy, requiring runners to carry their own reusable drinking vessels. Transport to the specific start locations for the 23, 31, and 38-mile distances is available for an additional fee from the main finish site.
