East Ridge, United States • 17 Jan 2026
Event
The MAD Backyard Ultra is a backyard-ultra endurance race held at Camp Jordan Park in East Ridge, Tennessee. The 2026 edition is listed as the 5th annual running and is a qualifying event for The Big Dog's Backyard Ultra. The format requires runners to complete the same loop every hour, continuing loop after loop until only one competitor completes a final lap.
Course and rules
The course is a trail loop through Camp Jordan Park that uses exterior track, gravel, and grass surfaces; it is described as flat, runnable, and non-technical. Each loop is strictly timed and runners must be on the course at the start of a loop to remain in the event. Crew access is allowed at the start/finish area and tents and canopies are permitted near the start line. No pacers are allowed. Runners may not receive aid while on the course, and artificial aids, including trekking poles, are prohibited. Race volunteers will provide aid at the start/finish area.
Awards and logistics
Awards include a unique award for the last runner to complete the final lap, a participation coin for all finishers, and a belt buckle for runners who reach 100 miles. Camping and RV parking are permitted at the site; RV spots must be coordinated with the race director. The race is part of the Chattanooga Ultra Championship series.
