MAD Backyard Ultra
MAD Backyard Ultra is a Backyard Ultra held at Camp Jordan Park in East Ridge, TN, organized by the Chattanooga Track Club. The event uses a repeating loop format: runners complete a 4.167-mile trail loop each hour and continue until only one competitor finishes the final lap. The event is listed as a qualifying race for The Big Dog's Backyard Ultra.
The course follows the park exterior track and includes sections of gravel and grass. The loop is described as flat, runnable, and non-technical. Volunteers and race workers provide aid at the start/finish area. Crew access is allowed at the start/finish, and tents and canopies are permitted near the start line. Runners receive timed warnings before each new loop.
Race rules require all competitors to be in the starting corral before the top of the hour and to begin each new lap at the sounding of the bell. Once on course, runners may not receive aid from crew or other individuals and may not leave the course except to use restrooms. Artificial aids, including trekking poles, are not allowed. Pacers and non-competitors are not permitted on the course.
Awards include a unique prize for the last runner standing, participation coins for all entrants, and a MAD Backyard Ultra belt buckle for runners who reach 100 miles. Camping options include tent and RV camping; RVs require advance notice to reserve a spot. The event is part of the Chattanooga Ultra Championship series.
