MAD Backyard Ultra : East Ridge, TN
MAD Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra held at Camp Jordan Park in East Ridge, Tennessee, on January 16, 2027. The event is organized by the Chattanooga Track Club and serves as a qualifying race for The Big Dog's Backyard Ultra.
Runners complete repeated loops of 4.167 miles on a route that uses exterior track, gravel, and grass. The course is described as flat, runnable, and non-technical. Competitors must finish each loop within the hour to continue; the race proceeds until a single runner completes a final lap.
Event options include a 3 hour format and 6 hour, 12 hour, and 24 hour formats. The 3 hour option is open to all ages with a parent or guardian signing the waiver for minors. The 6 hour, 12 hour, and 24 hour options are restricted to participants 18 years and older on race day.
Crew access, tents, and canopies are allowed near the start area. Volunteers and workers provide aid at the start and finish area. Runners must start each loop at the sounding of the bell, remain on course during a loop except to use restrooms, may not receive aid while on the course, and may not use pacers or artificial aids. Package pickup is available at the race site the day before and on race morning.
Awards include a unique award for the last runner standing, a participation coin for all finishers, and a belt buckle for runners who reach 100 miles. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
