MAD Backyard Ultra

The MAD Backyard Ultra is the sixth annual backyard ultra held at Camp Jordan Park in East Ridge, Tennessee on January 16, 2027. It is a qualifying event for The Big Dog's Backyard Ultra. The event uses a repeated loop format in which each competitor must complete a 4.167-mile trail loop within a one hour time limit to advance to the next loop. Runners continue until one competitor completes a final lap.

The course runs through Camp Jordan Park and uses exterior track, gravel, and grass surfaces. The course is described as flat, runnable, and non-technical. Crew access is allowed at the start and finish area, and tents and canopies are permitted near the start line. Race volunteers provide aid at the start/finish, while competitors are not allowed outside aid once they are on the course except for restroom use. No pacers or artificial aids including trekking poles are permitted. Organizers give 3 minute, 2 minute, and 1 minute warnings to assemble for the next loop, and all runners must be in the starting corral before the beginning of each loop or face disqualification.

Awards include a unique award for the last runner standing, a participation coin for all finishers, and a belt buckle for runners who reach 100 miles. Tent and RV camping are allowed, and hotels are available within about a mile. Packet pickup is at 323 Camp Jordan Parkway on the day before and the morning of the event. The race is part of the Chattanooga Ultra Championship series, which requires participation in three specified events for championship eligibility.
