- 13.1 miles (half marathon)
- 26.2+ miles (marathon)

Course and terrain
The route runs on the Maah Daah Hey Trail through the North Dakota Badlands. Terrain includes dirt, clay, sandstone, scoria, prairie grass on butte tops, and some sparsely wooded sections. The trail alternates frequent climbs and descents and offers multiple creek crossings; some crossings may be dry while others require getting wet. The 100-mile/116-mile out-and-back course no longer crosses the Little Missouri River.
Logistics and support
Aid stations or oasis points appear roughly every 25 miles, with shaded tents, chairs, porta potties and water at many locations. There are about nine major checkpoints at intersections with main back roads; porta potties are provided at checkpoints. Support-and-gear (SAG) drivers are recommended and long-distance participants must arrange their own transport to starts and pickup if they withdraw. Pacers are allowed for the ultra distances under race rules and must register and wear an official pacer bib. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
