Maah Daah Hey Trailrun
The Maah Daah Hey Trailrun is a multi distance trail event on the Maah Daah Hey Trail near Medora, North Dakota, held July 24 and 25, 2026. Races range from short out and back courses through to long point to point ultras that finish in Medora.
Distances offered include:
- 3.1+ miles (5K)
- 6.2+ miles (10K)
- 13.1 miles (Half marathon)
- 26.2+ miles (Marathon)
- 58 miles (50 mile)
- 116 miles (100 mile)
The trail surface includes dirt, clay, sandstone and scoria. Top sections feature flat prairie grasslands and some sparsely wooded stretches, providing minimal cover from the elements. Elevation gain is listed per distance, increasing with longer routes.
Aid and logistics: aid oases appear at roughly every 25 miles on the course, and there are about nine major checkpoints where the trail meets back roads; porta potties and water are provided at checkpoints. Multiple creek crossings occur on all distances; the 100 mile course no longer crosses the Little Missouri River. Shuttle service and support rules vary by distance; participants in the longer ultras must arrange personal transport to and from start locations and have someone available to remove them from course if needed. SAG drivers are recommended.
Pacer rules apply for the ultra distances: pacers must be registered, at least 18 years old, on foot only, wear an official pacer bib, and follow checkpoint entry and exit requirements. Finishers receive distance specific awards and there is a 36 hour cutoff for the 100 mile event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
