Lookout Mountain Trail Race

The races start high on Lookout Mountain at the Covenant College campus in Lookout Mountain, GA, near 13292 Scenic Highway. The event offers three distances.

  • 50 Miler
  • 18 Miler
  • 10K

The trail network uses predominantly single track routes with a mix of steep climbs, runnable sections, and moderate descents. The 50 mile and 18 mile races share the same course for the first 18 miles. The route crosses or follows at least five creeks on the 50 mile course and passes through Lula Lake Land Trust terrain that includes rhododendron, mixed hardwood, hemlock forests, and the 120 foot Lula Falls.

Two exposed bluff lines are part of the course and provide extended views; on a clear day it is possible to see five states from one section. Aid stations are staffed and include hot soup and evening camp fires. The 10K begins with a couple of flat, fast miles on college cross country trails, then continues on narrow trails along two creeks with several steep climbs, making sections easier to walk for those new to trails.

Online registration closes in mid December or when the maximum field is reached. Race proceeds benefit Wild Trails, a 501(c)(3) organization that supports trails in the greater Chattanooga area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
