Course, aid stations, and event policies
Lake Murray State Park covers about 12,500 acres and has over 30 miles of trails. Trail terrain ranges from simple and flat to moderately difficult sections with rocks and roots. Aid stations are placed between 4.7 and 6.7 miles apart; the 5-mile event does not have an aid station. This is a cupless race, so participants must carry their own hydration device. Drop bags are allowed for the 100-mile and 100K at the Start/Finish and Buzzards Roost aid station. Pacers are permitted for the 100-mile (from mile 53 or after dark) and the 100K (from mile 40.3 or after dark); pacer exchanges are allowed only at Tipps Point or Buzzards Roost. The 100-mile course includes specific loop and checkpoint requirements (final loop at mile 68.2; Tucker Tower at mile 81.9) and published cutoffs for progress.
Finisher awards include buckles for the 100-mile (including a sub-24 hour buckle and a buckle for finishes under 32 hours), a finisher buckle for the 100K within its time limit, and event medals for the 50K, 25K, and 5-mile. All participants receive a race shirt if ordered in time; shirts are only guaranteed for registrations made 14 days prior. Lodging options at the park include a lodge, cabins, RV sites, and primitive camping; car and tent camping near the start is offered for a fee. The event uses a race-credit refund policy: cancellations more than 30 days before the race receive 100% credit, cancellations between 30 and 14 days receive 50% credit, and no refunds or transfers are allowed less than two weeks before race day.
