La Garita 200

La Garita 200 is a new 200 mile mountain race in southern Colorado. The route is a large loop that starts and finishes in South Fork, Colorado, with a short out and back section of a few miles to connect the loop. The start location is on the banks of the Rio Grande.

The course travels through the La Garita mountains and reaches elevations just under 13,000 feet. Terrain includes arid pine forests, alpine tundra, and large mountain parks as the route climbs and descends across the range before returning to South Fork.

Organizers planned to limit the first-year field to about 25 to 30 runners; permits arrived later than expected. Registration remains open until Sat, Aug 1 at 11:59 PM MT, and entrants will not be charged until the target field size is reached. When that number is met, an invitation similar to a wait list notification will be sent so runners can confirm and pay. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
