Kokoda Challenge - Sunshine Coast
The Kokoda Challenge on the Sunshine Coast is a team endurance event held on Gubbi Gubbi Country in the Imbil State Forest, with the start and finish at Kenilworth. The event date is 9 May 2026. It combines a commemorative element that honours Australian diggers from the Kokoda Campaign in 1942 with fundraising for the Kokoda Youth Foundation and its fully funded youth programs.
Teams choose one of three course distances:
- 18 km
- 30 km
- 48 km
Each distance follows bushland tracks that include steep climbs, rugged terrain and river crossings. Time limits to complete each course are published for event day and checkpoints are placed along the routes: the 18 km course has 2 checkpoints and a minimum age of 9, the 30 km course has 3 checkpoints and a minimum age of 10, and the 48 km course has 5 checkpoints plus a support crew checkpoint and a minimum age of 13. Support crews are strongly recommended for the 48 km event; no support crew is provided for the shorter distances.
Participation requires team entry rather than solo entry, and each team must meet a minimum fundraising target before the event. Registration fees and fundraising requirements vary by distance and team size, with sample registration fees and minimum fundraising targets provided for each event category. Parking near the start/finish is available but limited. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
