Event Overview

The Kokoda Challenge Sunshine Coast is a charity team endurance event held in Imbil State Forest on Gubbi Gubbi Country. The event starts in the town of Kenilworth. It is organized to honor the Australian Defence Force members of the 1942 Kokoda Campaign and to raise funds for the Kokoda Youth Foundation's youth programs.

Participants can choose from three distances:

Course and Participation

The course takes teams through the Imbil State Forest. Event rules require participation in teams, with no solo entries allowed. Minimum age requirements vary by distance: 9 years for the 18 km, 10 years for the 30 km, and 13 years for the 48 km. The event features checkpoints along the routes. A support crew is allowed only for the 48 km distance at a designated checkpoint. Parking is available near the start/finish line at Kenilworth State Community College.

Fundraising and Fees

The event is a fundraising initiative for the Kokoda Youth Foundation. Each team must meet a minimum fundraising target to participate. Registration fees are required per team, with costs varying based on team size and the chosen distance. For example, a 4-person team for the 48 km event has a registration fee of $400 and a minimum fundraising target of $850.

Round 7 of Season 13 at Ewen Maddock Dam on 1 March 2026 features short and long course trail races with professional timing, race photos, series points and a post race coffee cart. Distances are 8.2 km and 14.4 km.

The Noosa Ultra-Trail is a UTMB Index trail running event set in the scenic Noosa Trail Network. It features six distances ranging from 15 km to 100 km. The event weekend includes a pre-race buffet lunch.

The Wild Horse Criterium offers runs from a marathon to a free kids dash on Easter Sunday 2026. Races start and finish at the Wild Horse Mountain car park on a mixed-terrain 10.5 km lap.

Yandina means 'to go on foot,' and this trail event offers four distances through Mapleton National Park. The 5th edition starts at Terella Brewing, with post-run refreshments available.
