HOKA Kodiak Ultra Marathons by UTMB
HOKA Kodiak Ultra Marathons by UTMB is a trail running festival in Big Bear Lake, California that combines multiple race distances with town-centre festival activities. The event runs as a two-day festival weekend with the start and finish located in downtown Big Bear Lake. The festival program includes local food and drink vendors, a DJ, and a parade through town.
Courses offer sustained views of Big Bear Lake and pass through features such as Sugarloaf Mountain and Siberia Canyon. Runners move through three distinct climate zones along the routes: high desert, sub alpine, and semi-arid. Elevation gain varies significantly by course, ranging from about 280 m on the shortest route to over 4,850 m on the longest, with intermediate courses showing several hundred to a few thousand meters of climbing.
The event is designated as the UTMB World Series Americas Major for 2026, offering double Running Stones compared with other UTMB World Series events. The Major also grants automatic qualification places for the 2027 UTMB World Series Finals to 210 runners, including age-group winners and the top ten men and women in the 100M, 100K, and 50K categories. The event is also a dual qualifier for the UTMB World Series Finals and the Western States Endurance Run.
