The HOKA Kodiak Ultra Marathons by UTMB is an alpine trail running event held in Big Bear Lake, California. The race takes place over several days and features courses that traverse various landscapes, including high desert, sub-alpine, and semi-arid environments. The event serves as a dual qualifier for the UTMB World Series Finals and the Western States Endurance Run.
Participants run through the San Bernardino Mountains, with the course reaching locations such as the summit of Sugarloaf Mountain and Siberia Canyon. The start and finish lines are located in downtown Big Bear Lake. As a UTMB World Series Americas Major, this event allows finishers to collect double the standard amount of Running Stones for the UTMB World Series Finals lottery. Additionally, 210 runners can secure automatic qualification for the finals based on their performance in specific categories.
The following distances are available:
- 100M: A 162 km course with 4850 meters of elevation gain.
- 100K: A 99 km course with 3120 meters of elevation gain.
- 50K: A 48.4 km course with 1339 meters of elevation gain.
- 21K: A 19.5 km course with 575 meters of elevation gain.
- 10K: A 10.5 km course with 280 meters of elevation gain.
