About the race
The Heysen Trail Ultra is a point-to-point trail running event along the Heysen Trail in South Australia, running from Rocky Creek (Kuitpo) to Victor Harbor. The event takes place across a weekend in October 2026 and includes single-day races plus multi-day combinations that pair a Saturday distance with a Sunday distance.
Multiple course distances are offered across single-day and multi-day options, including:
- 115 km
- 70 km
- 53 km (Deep Creek)
- 50 km (Myponga)
- 42 km (marathon)
- 28 km
- 22 km
- 13 km
- 9 km
- Kids 2 km
Entries use tiered pricing (early bird, second release, final release) and most race fees include shuttle bus transport. Several multi-day entry options combine two races over the weekend (for example 115 km on Saturday plus 53 km on Sunday for the 100 miler multi-day entry).
The event publishes GPX files and interactive maps for each distance and requires runners to carry mandatory gear on most distances. Mandatory items for 22 km to 115 km include a mobile phone with event number, the GPX file on device, a mini first aid kit, whistle, headlamp with spare batteries, waterproof seam-sealed jacket, high-vis vest, beanie or buff, running gloves, and at least 1,000 ml of liquids plus a keep cup or soft flask. Aid stations operate on both days with food, drink and cutoffs at many locations; Saturday has nine aid stations and Sunday has four, with specific cutoff times listed for each aid station in event materials.
Pacers are permitted only for the 115 km event and may join a runner at designated aid stations from the Hindmarsh Tiers Aid Station onward. Refunds are not available; transfers are permitted under race manual terms. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
