Hermitage of Braid and Blackford Hill trail runs (22 November 2026)

Scurry Events is hosting trail running events at the Hermitage of Braid nature reserve with proceeds supporting South Morningside Primary School and the Friends of the Hermitage and Braid. The programme includes multiple race distances and a short festive fun run.

  • 10 km
  • 5 km
  • 1.2 km festive fun run

The 10 km and 5 km races are one-lap mixed-terrain routes that start and finish at Hermitage of Braid House and use trail paths around the Hermitage and Blackford Hill nature reserve. The routes include uneven surfaces such as tarmac, grass, mud, and woodland tracks and are signposted and marshalled. The 1.2 km festive fun run runs up and down the main drive to the Hermitage House; pushchairs, prams, and buggies are suitable on the fun run but not on the trail courses. Children under 10 must run the fun run with an adult. Dogs are not allowed on the trail courses; well-behaved dogs on leads are permitted on the fun run.

Facilities at the venue are limited: there is no parking inside the Hermitage, on-road parking is available nearby, limited bike rack spaces are provided, and portaloos will be on site. A first-aid team will be present and competitors are expected to follow marshal instructions. Post-race drink and snack will be provided and 5 km and 10 km runners receive a race memento. Prize awards apply to the 10 km and 5 km events; no prizes are offered for the fun run.

Event entries may be transferred or the event rescheduled in case of extreme weather; partial refunds apply in some circumstances as stated by the organisers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
