Pegasus - The HOWUM

Llanidloes, United Kingdom • 2 May 2026

The Heart of Wales Ultra Marathon

The HOWUM is a circular running event that takes place in the borderlands between Wales and England. Starting and finishing at the Dol Lys Camp Ground in Llanidloes, the route covers a distance of 30 miles. The course is composed of approximately 80% trail and 20% road, with a total elevation gain of 4,356 feet.

The route incorporates sections of four major trails: the Sarn, Glyndwr’s Way, the Severn Way, and the Wye Valley Walk. Runners travel from Llanidloes toward the Clywedog Reservoir and continue to the source of the River Severn before returning to the start location.

Participants move through the mid-Wales landscape with the support of two fully stocked aid stations. These checkpoints are staffed by crew members and provide fresh fruit, snacks, hot and cold drinks, seating, and power banks. There are no time limits for this event, as the focus is on completing the adventure and observing the local scenery.

Available distances:

  • 30 miles (The HOWUM)
  • 15 miles (The HOWUM Half)

Mandatory kit for all participants includes appropriate footwear, a rucksack, a waterproof jacket, a foil blanket, a mobile phone, and a one-liter water carrier. A headlamp or another light source is also required for tunnels or low-light conditions. Registration opens early on the morning of the event at the Dol Lys Camp Ground.
