The Heart of Wales Ultra Marathon 2026

The HOWUM is a circular running event on 2 May 2026 that explores mid Wales from Llanidloes. The route starts and finishes at Dol Lys Camp Ground and uses sections of the Sarn, Glyndwr’s Way, Severn Way and Wye Valley Walk. It passes the Clywedog Reservoir and reaches the source of the River Severn.

The route surface is approximately 80% trail and 20% road with a total elevation gain of 4,356 ft. There are three fully manned and stocked checkpoints along the course; checkpoints provide snacks, fresh fruit, hot and cold drinks, seats, power banks and music. The organiser supplies route maps via plotaroute.com to allow last-minute updates and downloads.

There are no imposed time limits for completion. Mandatory kit items listed by the organiser include appropriate footwear, a 1 litre water carrier, mobile phone, headlamp or other light source, foil blanket, waterproof jacket and rucksack. Entry includes a Pegasus medal, post race care, access to fully stocked checkpoints and race crew support.
