Course, safety and logistics

The race starts and finishes at Threipmuir Farm Steading, between Harlaw and Threipmuir Reservoirs in Balerno. The multi terrain route includes smooth trails, some tarmac, rocky trails, bog and marshland and possibly shallow water crossings. Organisers note there may be fog, rain, snow or ice and that parts of the route are narrow; competitors should respect other runners and members of the public and must not drop litter. Dogs are not allowed on the course. The event is not recommended for novice runners.

A checkpoint and water station are located at 8 miles at Bonaly car park; a first aider will be present and there is a two hour cut off at this checkpoint. There will be a water station at the finish and sweep runners who can provide minimal first aid. A space blanket and a wind/waterproof jacket are mandatory; a hat and gloves are suggested. Facilities include a bag drop and very limited outside toilet provision; there are no changing or shower facilities. Parking is limited and marshals will assist. Competitors must comply with any relevant Covid rules at the time of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
