About the race
The Harmeny AC 7R Multi Terrain Half Marathon takes place on 6 December 2026 and starts and finishes at Threipmuir Farm Steading, located between Harlaw and Threipmuir Reservoirs in Balerno (postcode EH14 7AS). Entry is restricted to 150 runners and there is a small waiting list; no entries are accepted on the day. Withdrawals receive a 50% refund up to 31 October, after which there are no refunds. Entries are non refundable and not transferable.
The route is multi terrain and includes smooth trails, some tarmac, rocky sections, bog and marshland and possibly shallow water crossings. Winter conditions may include fog, rain, snow or ice. Participants must carry a space blanket and a wind/waterproof jacket; a hat and gloves are recommended. Some parts of the route are narrow, dogs are not allowed on the course, and competitors should obey marshal instructions and avoid dropping litter.
There is a checkpoint at 8 miles at Bonaly car park with a two hour cutoff at that point; a first aider will be present and sweep runners can provide minimal first aid. There are no distance markers; the route will be marked with signs or flags. Runners must carry their own fluids and nutrition as there is no water station. Hot soup and home baking will be available at the finish. Very limited toilet facilities are provided at the steading, both car parks and the visitor centre. Car parking is at Harlaw and Threipmuir car parks and may be charged; use of the No 44 bus via Currie and Balerno is noted.
