Grind on the Grid Backyard Ultra : May 9, 2026
Grind on the Grid is a backyard ultra held in Wingate, IN at 3272 East New Richmond Road. The race uses a purpose-built course of exactly 4 miles 880 feet laid out as an out and back with a short grass trail loop near the end. Surface makeup is approximately 0.5 mile gravel, 0.5 mile grass, and 3.167 miles of road with decent shoulders.
The event follows a strict backyard ultra format: each loop begins precisely one hour after the previous loop, and all competitors must start at the bell. Loops must be completed within the hour to count. A measured starting corral is sized to hold the full field and remains the same throughout the event; participants are required to be in the corral at the bell.
On-course rules note that, except for restroom breaks, competitors may not leave the course until a loop is finished. No non-competitors are allowed on the course, and no personal aid is permitted during a loop though common aid stations are allowed. Portapotties will be located near the starting corral.
Organizers will track who finishes each loop but will not provide official split timing for each runner. The winner is the last person to complete a loop; if no runner can complete one more loop than all others, there is no winner. Organizers are aiming for a field of up to 100 runners and will allow tent or canopy setup the night before. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
