Grind on the Grid Backyard Ultra
The Grind on the Grid Backyard Ultra takes place in Wingate, IN on April 17, 2027. The event uses a single loop that measures 4 miles 880 feet. The layout is an out and back with a short grass trail loop near the end.
The running surface combines approximately 0.5 mile gravel, 0.5 mile grass, and 3.167 miles of road with decent shoulders. The starting corral is measured to fit the entire field and remains the same size throughout the event; participants must be present in the corral at the bell and must start with the bell.
Each loop begins precisely one hour after the previous start, with warning signals given three, two, and one minute before each start. Loops must be completed within an hour to be counted, including the final lap. Competitors may not leave the course during a loop except for restroom use. Portapotties will be located near the starting corral. No non-competitors are allowed on the course, and no personal aid is permitted during a loop although common aid stations are allowed. Artificial aids including trekking poles are prohibited, and slower runners must allow passes.
Organizers will track who finishes each loop though individual lap timing is not official. The winner is the last person to complete a loop; all others are recorded as DNF and results report distance covered. Tent or canopy setup will be allowed the night before the event. Organizers are aiming for 100 runners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
