Grey Rock Trail Runs

Grey Rock Trail Runs are summer trail races held in the Cascade Mountains near Yakima, Washington, with the start area at Tree Phones Campground in the Ahtanum State Forest. The event is in its 16th year and uses out-and-back single-track trail.

  • 25K out-and-back single-track with over 3500 ft of elevation gain.
  • 12K shorter option that follows the same route.

The course offers views of Mt. Rainier and Mt. Adams, open ridges, forested stretches, and a mix of rocky and smooth forest trails. The higher mountain elevation tends to keep temperatures lower, though it can still get very warm by mid day.

Aid stations provide water, electrolyte drinks, power bars, and gels at the 25K turnaround. Participants are advised to carry additional water and snacks. Medals are awarded to the top three men and top three women in each event. A Washington State Discover Pass is required for all vehicles at the site.

Custom short sleeve tech T-shirts are available for purchase for a fee. Light refreshments are provided for participants after the race. The event policy states no refunds. There is day-of-race check in at Tree Phones Campground and a short pre-race briefing before each race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
