Grand Explorers’ Trail Race
The Grand Explorers’ Trail Race links Grand River Park and Grand Ravines Park via the Idema Explorers Trail. The event celebrates Ottawa County Parks and projects supported by the Ottawa County Parks Foundation.
The course follows the Idema Explorers Trail along the Grand River and enters Grand Ravines Park, where runners pass an old covered bridge and climb a slight incline to a river viewpoint. The 5K route turns around near that viewpoint. The 10K continues through Grand Ravines Park around the dog park, through a meadow, across the Idema suspension bridge, and back through woods to Grand River Park. Wildlife such as resident bald eagles may be seen.
Trail conditions include a significant paved portion along the river and sections of dirt or grass with roots and uneven ground. The 5K includes about two miles of paved trail and the 10K about four miles of paved trail. Portions of the unpaved trail can become muddy when wet. The 10K course includes some steps.
Distances offered:
- 10K
- 5K
- 1 Mile Kids Fun Run
Walkers, families, and dogs are welcome. The race aims to raise awareness for parks and projects such as the Grand River Greenway and the Idema Explorers Trail and to support the Ottawa County Parks Foundation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
