Grand Explorers' Trail Race

The Grand Explorers' Trail Race is an annual trail running event organized by the Ottawa County Parks Foundation. The 2026 date is set for June 20, 2026. It is the fourth running of the event and uses park trails between Grand River Park and Grand Ravines Park. Distances offered:

  • 10K
  • 5K
  • 1 Mile (kids fun run/walk)

The event highlights support for Ottawa County Parks and projects such as the Grand River Greenway and the Idema Explorers Trail.

Course and trail conditions

The course begins at Grand River Park and follows the Idema Explorers Trail along the Grand River to Grand Ravines Park, where the route passes an old covered bridge and a river overlook. The 5K route turns around near that overlook. The 10K continues through Grand Ravines Park, passes a dog park, crosses a meadow and the Idema suspension bridge, then returns through woods to Grand River Park. Parts of the riverside trail are paved: about two miles paved on the 5K and about four miles paved on the 10K. Remaining sections are dirt or grass with roots and uneven ground and may become muddy after heavy rain. The 10K includes some steps. The listed race location address is Grand River Park, 9473 28th Ave., Jenison, Michigan 49428. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
