The Golden State Trail Run on June 20, 2026 offers four trail distances at Fort Ord National Monument near Monterey, CA. Courses tour varied terrain and plant communities found on the former military base.

Most of the routes run on non-technical dirt trails and fire roads, with sections of smooth single-track, sandy hills, and rolling hills through fields of wildflowers. Vegetation includes maritime chaparral, grasslands, and marsh areas; the area supports a variety of rare and endangered plant and animal species. Hiking or trekking poles are permitted.

Aid stations provide a range of foods and beverages such as energy gels, chews, stroop waffles, trail mix, salty snacks, PB&J, boiled potatoes, soda, water, and Skratch Labs hydration mix. This is a cupless event so runners must carry their own water bottle or reusable cup; reusable silicone cups are available for purchase at the event. Drop bag service is not available. Runners are encouraged to carry at least one 20 oz bottle.

Races are chip timed using MyLaps and Race Director with disposable chips affixed to bibs. The event capacity is 350 runners. There is a 9 hour time limit for the 35K and 50K with course cutoffs in place.

Awards include custom medals for all finishers, a pint glass for 50K finishers, custom trophies for the top three overall in each distance, and age group awards. Volunteers receive a race T-shirt, food, and event credit. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
