The Golden State Trail Run is a summer event taking place on the trails of Fort Ord National Monument in Marina, California. The courses differ from the organizer's winter Fort Ord Trail Runs.
Race Distances
The event offers four race distances:
- 50K
- 35K
- Half Marathon
- 10K
Course Information
The courses provide a tour of Fort Ord National Monument. The terrain includes rolling hills, smooth single-track trails, sandy hills, and exposed fire roads. The area features a diverse landscape with maritime chaparral, grasslands, marshes, and fields of flowers. The event is authorized by a permit from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
Aid Stations and Supplies
This is a cupless event; participants must carry their own water bottle or reusable cup, which can be purchased on-site. Aid stations may provide Gu Energy products, trail mix, pretzels, chips, cookies, soda, water, sports drink, Pickle Juice, sandwiches, candy, salt tablets, bananas, watermelon, and tangerines. They will also have basic first aid items. Distances between aid stations vary.
Race Logistics
The start and finish area is at Fort Ord Day Camp, with parking available on-site. Carpooling is encouraged. Bib pickup is available the day before the race at a specified location in Monterey, or on race morning at the start area. The time limit for the 50K and 35K distances is 9 hours.
Awards
The top three overall male and female winners in each distance receive a custom trophy. All finishers receive a custom medal. 50K finishers also receive a pint glass. Age-group medals are awarded three deep across several categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
