Golden State - Marina, CA

The Golden State trail races take place at Fort Ord National Monument with start and finish at the Fort Ord Day Camp / Watkins Gate Road area in East Garrison. Courses tour former military lands with a variety of natural habitats and plant communities, including maritime chaparral, grasslands, marshes, and fields of wildflowers. The area contains endangered and rare species of plants and animals found within the monument.

The event offers multiple distances:

  • 50K
  • 35K
  • Half Marathon
  • 10K

Course terrain includes rolling hills, smooth single-track, sandy slopes, and exposed fire roads. Inside Trail Racing holds a Special Recreation Permit from the Bureau of Land Management to use these trails.

This is a cupless event; aid stations do not provide paper cups and participants are expected to carry their own water bottle or reusable cup. Reusable cups and soft flasks are available for purchase at the event. Aid stations supply a variety of foods and hydration options such as energy gels, trail mix, fruit, sports drink, water, and some hot and salty items. Runners are advised that aid station spacing varies and a minimum carried fluid capacity is recommended.

Parking is available within the Fort Ord Day Camp site adjacent to the start/finish area, off Watkins Gate Road. Awards and finisher items are provided by the organizer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
