2026 Big Sur Trail Marathon, Half Marathon and 5 Mile
The event takes place September 26, 2026 at Andrew Molera State Park in Big Sur, California. It offers three trail distances and is limited to 300 participants; the race typically sells out.
Distances include:
- Marathon on Old Coast Road with an additional out and back
- Half Marathon following Old Coast Road and turning at the second aid station
- 5 Mile turning at the first aid station
The course runs along Old Coast Road with coastal views and notable hills. The route is marked with orange ribbon. Aid stations are located at mile 2.5 for all distances; at miles 6.5 and 10.5 for half and full; and at miles 15.8, 19.7, and 23.7 for marathoners. Portable restrooms will be adjacent to each aid station and organizers recommend carrying water. A course cut off of 6.5 hours is in place.
Participants receive T shirts; medals are awarded to marathon and half marathon finishers. Personalized award ribbons for the top three male and female finishers in each age group will be mailed after the event. Bib numbers are mailed about a week before the race; unreceived bibs may be picked up on race morning in the picnic area. Parking at the park is limited and there is a $10 per car park entry fee payable in cash.
Registrations are non refundable and non transferable. Without purchased refund protection, a rollover credit minus a $20 fee is available if requested by August 26, 2026; after that date a doctor s note is required. Headphones and other audible music devices are not allowed. Dogs are not allowed on the course but are permitted on leash in developed park areas.
