Furbutt's Backyard 24 Hour and 12 Hour
Furbutt’s Backyard is a looped backyard-format ultrarun held at the Mustang Trailhead on Sat May 23, 2026. The event offers two options:
- 24 Hour - 100 mile limit
- 12 Hour - 50 mile option called Furbutt After Dark
The backyard format uses a repeating 4.167-mile loop. Runners have one hour to complete each loop and must be at the start corral at the top of the next hour to begin the next loop or they are eliminated.
The course begins with a flat, open grassy field for about 0.7 miles, then continues on dirt and crushed gravel bridle trails that are mostly flat with some gentle ups and downs. Each loop gains roughly 300-350 feet; the total listed ascent/descent for the event is about 7,800 feet.
Entry is open but limited to 100 runners. Fees are listed as $25 for the 24 Hour option and $15 for the 12 Hour option. The event provides water, ice, Gatorade, and some snacks at a single aid station; runners should bring any additional food or beverages they will personally need. Crews are allowed only at that aid station; parking is in the grass field behind the horse pavilion near the start/finish area.
The event does not provide medical personnel or medical supplies. Runners are responsible for their own health and safety; emergency response may be distant and injuries such as cuts, sprains, or asthma attacks can occur. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
