Furbutt's Backyard 24 Hour and 12 Hour
Furbutt’s Backyard is a backyard ultra format event held at the Mustang Trailhead. The format requires runners to complete an hourly loop of approximately 4.167 miles; runners must return to the start corral at the top of each hour to continue. Failure to be in the corral at the hour means a runner is out of the event.
Distances and options:
- 24 hour - 100 mile limit
- 12 hour Furbutt After Dark - 50 mile limit
The course begins with a flat, open grassy field for about 0.7 miles before transitioning to dirt and crushed gravel bridle trails that are mostly flat with some gentle ups and downs. Total elevation gain per loop is about 300 to 350 feet. The start/finish area has a large horse trailer pavilion that serves as a central location for personal gear; no runner will be more than a five to ten second walk from the starting line. Parking is in the grass field behind the pavilion, placing vehicles close to the corral.
A single aid station at the start/finish will provide water, ice, Gatorade, and snacks. Runners are responsible for their own additional food and personal supplies at a personal aid station. Crews are allowed only at the event aid station and are not permitted elsewhere on the course.
Medical support is not provided by the club during the event. Runners are responsible for their own health and emergency care and should be aware of the risks of trail running. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
