Furbutt's Backyard 24 Hour

Furbutt's Backyard 24 Hour is a club-run Backyard format event held over Memorial Day at the Meadowood Special Recreation Area on Mason Neck, near Lorton at the southern end of Fairfax County, Virginia. The start and finish are at the corner of Gunston Road and Harley Road, beneath a large horse pavilion, with parking in the grass field behind the pavilion.

The event uses a repeating 4.167 mile loop. Runners have one hour to complete each loop and must be at the start corral ready to begin the next loop at the top of the hour. The event is run with a 24 hour limit and a 100 mile cap. The loop begins with a flat, open grassy field for about 0.7 miles, then follows dirt and crushed gravel bridle trails through woods and some open meadows. Elevation gain per loop is about 300–350 feet, with total ascent/descent for the event listed at 7,800 feet.

There is one aid station under the horse pavilion. Organizers provide water, ice, Gatorade, and snacks; runners are expected to bring any additional personal food or beverages they will need at their own personal aid area. Crews are allowed only at the main aid station and must not contact runners in the corral after a loop begins; audible warnings are used before each loop start. Entry is limited to 100 runners and a fee is charged to cover permit and event expenses.

This event does not provide medical personnel or supplies. Runners are responsible for their own health and safety and should be prepared for remote emergency response times and the typical physical risks of trail ultrarunning. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
