Furbutt's Backyard 24 Hour
Furbutt’s Backyard 24 Hour is a Backyard-style ultrarun held on May 29, 2027 on Mason Neck at the Meadowood Special Recreation Area near Lorton in southern Fairfax County, Virginia. The event uses a looped course that starts and finishes under a large horse pavilion at the corner of Gunston Road and Harley Road.
The format gives runners one hour to complete each loop, a distance of about 4.167 miles per loop. Runners must be in the start-line corral at the top of each hour to begin the next loop. The race has a 24 hour time limit and a 100 mile limit.
The loop begins with a flat grassy field for about 0.7 miles, then continues on dirt and crushed gravel bridle trails that are mostly flat with some gentle ups and downs. Elevation gain per loop is about 300 to 350 feet, and the total listed ascent/descent for the event is 7,800 feet.
There is a single aid station under the horse pavilion. Organizers provide water, ice, Gatorade and some snacks. Runners are expected to bring any additional food or personal supplies they need. Crew access is allowed only at the main aid station and is prohibited elsewhere on the course. Parking is in the grass field behind the pavilion.
Entry opens March 23, 2027 and is limited to 100 runners. A fee of $25 is charged to cover event expenses. Medical personnel are not provided on course; runners are responsible for their own medical needs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
