Frosty Mountain Ultra - Event overview
The event takes place on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the Lightning Lake day use area in Manning Provincial Park, BC. It offers three trail distances that run around and above Lightning Lake, featuring forested sections, alpine meadows, single track and rocky terrain, and an ascent to the area just below the summit of Frosty Mountain, listed at 7900 feet (2408 meters).
Distances offered:
- 13 km - 185 m elevation gain
- 27 km - 1300 m elevation gain
- 50 km - 2400 m elevation gain
The 27 km and 50 km routes travel along a mix of trails including the Similkameen, Windy Joe and Frosty Mountain approaches, then return toward Lightning Lake; the 50 km continues up Skyline Trail and returns via Strawberry Flats. Aid stations are limited due to the remote setting; they provide water, pop, gels, bars, candy and fruit. Notable aid locations include Windy Joe, Frosty Camp, Tom's Bench, Skyline Junction, Strawberry Flats and Spruce Bay Beach on the 13 km course.
Mandatory gear for the 27 km and 50 km races includes a working headlamp, an emergency survival blanket, a whistle, a minimum of 400 calories of extra food, a waterproof jacket, an insulating long-sleeve shirt and gloves. Live route navigation and optional live tracking are provided via a smartphone app. Participants are advised to plan for limited on-course support and to carry sufficient water and nutrition.
