Event Overview

The Freedom Run takes place on July 4, 2026, in Centennial Park, Springfield. This edition commemorates the 250th anniversary of American independence.

Event Details

The event features three distances: a Freedom Run 5K, a Freedom Run Mile (1-Mile Fun Run/Walk), and a Freedom Run 10K. All races are chip-timed. The 5K route extends through a wildlife sanctuary. The 10K route features the Sangamon Valley Trail. The 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk follows a shortened route.

The race begins at the top of Centennial Park Hill and finishes downhill at the bottom. A post-race celebration includes breakfast food and drinks. Packet pickup on race day starts at 6:15 AM near the finish line at the Sangamon Valley Trail and Bunker Hill Road trailhead.

Awards and Participation

Every participant receives a commemorative finisher t-shirt and medal. Awards are presented to the top overall male and female finishers, as well as top finishers in 10-year age brackets from 10 & under through 80+.

Series Information

The Freedom Run is the second event in the All-American Trail Trek Series, a three-race series celebrating local trails and patriotic dates. Participants who register for all three races receive a commemorative coffee mug and automatic entry into a drawing for a Garmin Forerunner watch. Trail races at Carpenter Park on April 4 2026 offering 5K and 10K routes with river and woodland views. It is the first event in the All American Trail Trek Series and includes a race T-shirt and finisher medal.
