Fiery Gizzard Run - Foster Falls State Park
The Fiery Gizzard Run is a trail event held at Foster Falls State Park, Tennessee, offering multiple distance options and a limited field. The route follows the Fiery Gizzard Trail and includes waterfalls, rock formations, and ridge-line overlooks. Much of the course is runnable ridge-line trail, but there are steep, technical descents into gorges that require careful footing. Full course details will be emailed about one week before race day.
Distances
- Marathon - out-and-back on Fiery Gizzard Trail via Grundy Forest Trailhead
- Half Marathon - single traverse from Grundy Forest Trailhead to Foster Falls
- Ruck Only - 13 miles
Logistics and race rules note a capacity limit of 175 runners. Marathon runners begin and finish at the Foster Falls Trailhead; half marathon runners traverse from the Grundy trailhead to the Foster Falls finish. Half marathon participants have two check-in options: check in at Foster Falls then drive to Grundy, or check in directly at Grundy. Passenger vans will shuttle finishers back to Grundy to retrieve vehicles.
Aid stations are spaced farther apart than typical due to limited trail access; expect roughly 6 to 8 miles between stations. Elevation change is about 3,500 ft per 13 miles. Race shirts and other swag are not included in the entry fee; apparel options may be added during the registration process. All finishers receive a custom Hardwin award; additional awards are given to top male and female finishers.
Medical support is limited to basic first aid in the field; participants are responsible for their own safety and any rescue costs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
