Fiery Gizzard Run : November 28, 2026

The Fiery Gizzard Run is a trail event at Foster Falls State Park, Tennessee, offering multiple distances on the Fiery Gizzard Trail. The route includes waterfalls, rock formations, and ridge-line overlooks. Much of the trail is runnable ridge-line, but runners will encounter steep, technical descents into gorges that require careful footing. Full course details will be emailed to entrants about one week before race day.

Distances:

  • Marathon
  • Half Marathon
  • Ruck Only - 13 miles

The marathon follows the Fiery Gizzard Trail to the Grundy Forest Trailhead and returns to Foster Falls for the finish. Half marathon runners complete a single traverse from Grundy to Foster Falls. Two check-in options are provided for half marathon participants: early check-in at Foster Falls with a drive to Grundy for the start, or direct check-in at Grundy. Passenger vans will shuttle finish-area runners back to Grundy to retrieve vehicles.

Due to limited access on the trail, aid stations are spaced farther apart than typical events, with roughly 6-8 miles between aid points; runners should carry sufficient water and nutrition for those stretches. All entrants must secure an RFID chip to the left ankle and ensure the bib matches the chip number. The event capacity is 175 runners. A portion of proceeds supports park and trail maintenance.

A rucking division is offered with required dry weights by bodyweight; weigh-ins occur shortly before the start. Basic first aid is available in the field but there is no on-site medical staff; participants are responsible for their own safety. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
