Fiery Gizzard Run : Foster Falls State Park, TN

The event offers three entry options:

  • Marathon
  • Half Marathon
  • Ruck Only - 13 miles

Check-in for all participants is at the Grundy location to receive a bib and an RFID chip. Half marathon runners check in at Grundy and then drive to the Foster Falls start; passenger vans will be available to transport finishers back to their vehicles. The event capacity is 175 runners, a limit set by park officials.

Course, logistics and rules

The course runs on a well-known trail with waterfalls, rock formations, and overlooks. Much of the route is ridge-line running, with several steep, technical descents into gorges that require focused footing. Marathon entrants complete the full trail twice in an out-and-back format; half marathon entrants complete one full traverse. Aid stations are sparse due to limited access, typically about 6-8 miles apart. Elevation change is about 3,500 ft per 13 miles. Medical support is limited to basic first aid from field responders; participants are responsible for their own safety and for any rescue costs. The event includes a Rucking Division with dry-weight requirements: over 150 lb carry 20 lb, under 150 lb carry 10 lb. Weigh-ins occur shortly before the race; weights must be stamped and may be checked during the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
