Fiery Gizzard Run at Foster Falls State Park

The Fiery Gizzard Run presents trail race options on the Fiery Gizzard Trail at Foster Falls State Park in Tennessee. The event offers multiple distance choices and a rucking division, with a field capacity limited to 175 runners.

  • Half Marathon
  • Ruck Only 13 miles

The trail route passes waterfalls, rock formations, and ridge-line overlooks. Much of the course is runnable ridge-line trail, but runners will encounter steep, technical descents into gorges and sections that require careful attention to footing. Aid access is limited on parts of the trail; organizers advise carrying sufficient water and nutrition because aid stations can be roughly six to eight miles apart.

Course logistics: the marathon is an out-and-back that follows the Fiery Gizzard Trail between the Foster Falls Trailhead and the Grundy Forest Trailhead. Half marathon participants complete a single traverse from the Grundy Forest Trailhead to the Foster Falls finish. Two check-in options are provided for half marathon runners: check in early at Foster Falls then drive to Grundy, or check in directly at Grundy. Passenger vans will shuttle finish-area runners back to Grundy to retrieve vehicles.

Additional notes: race shirts and swag are not included in the basic fee. The event provides a custom finisher award to all finishers and additional awards for the top male and female in both distances. Medical support is limited to basic first aid in the field; rescue costs are the responsibility of the participant. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
