Fall Backyard Burn at Riverbend Park

The Fall Backyard Burn Trail Run at Riverbend Park is part of a series of trail races held in Fairfax County, Virginia. The event takes place in a park located along the Potomac River, just west of Great Falls National Park. The course features riverside singletrack and several views of the water.

Participants can choose between two distances:

  • 5 miles (1 lap)
  • 10 miles (2 laps)

The 5 mile course has an elevation gain of 350 feet, while the 10 mile course involves 700 feet of total elevation gain. The terrain includes some short hills but is described as not being highly technical. Race operations include professional timing, medical support, and aid stations positioned along the route.

The event features a dedicated program for children that includes supervised nature exploration and STEM activities while adults are on the course. A short out and back race for children aged 2-11 is also held later in the morning.

The start and finish area is located near the visitor center by the river. Facilities include portajohns at the staging area. Participation guidelines prohibit the use of in-ear headphones, pets, pacers, and baby strollers on the trails. Performance awards are presented to the top five finishers in various age categories, ranging from under 12 to over 70. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
