Fall Backyard Burn Trail Run at Riverbend Park

The Fall Backyard Burn at Riverbend Park is a trail running event held in Riverbend Regional Park in Great Falls, VA on Sunday November 22, 2026. The course runs adjacent to the Potomac River and just west of Great Falls National Park. It follows riverside singletrack, includes a few short hills, and offers views along the river. The organizer describes the course as not highly technical.

Distances offered:

  • 5 miles (one lap) with about 350 feet elevation gain.
  • 10 miles (two laps) with about 700 feet elevation gain.

The race is staged near the visitor center by the river. Parking is provided in several areas within the park, including paved lots, roadside grass areas, and near the nature center; participants are asked to follow parking signs and volunteer instructions.

A children's program runs alongside the event. The kids race is for ages 2 to 11, split into age groups with short out-and-back races and a Treasure Box selection for participants. The organized kids program includes nature activities and requires pre-registration; program fees and multi-date pricing are listed by the organizer.

Race rules include no in-ear headphones, visible race numbers worn on the front, no pets or pacers, no strollers, staying on designated trails, and notifying officials if a runner drops out. Medals are an optional add-on and a series medal is awarded to participants who complete all five races in the series. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
