About the race
The Brain Foundation 5k & 10k is a community running event held at Burke Lake Park (Shelter C). Points earned at this event count toward the Year-Long 5k & Back of the Pack Series and the Fall Series.
Distances:
- 5 km
- 10 km
The course runs through the park trails and is mostly paved with a short section of gravel. There are limited elevation gains along the route. For the 10 km, the course follows an out-and-back route completed twice from the same shelter. Walkers and strollers are welcome.
In-person participants receive a finisher’s medal, an event shirt, and chip timing. A virtual race option is available for those not attending in person. Water stations are placed along the 5k course at approximately mile markers 0.7 and 2.4; Gatorade is provided at some stations. Restroom facilities are located by the parking lot at Shelter A. Packet pickup is available at the event; organizers recommend arriving about one hour before the race to check in. Race day registration is offered but shirt sizes cannot be guaranteed for those who register on race day.
Organizers post live results via an online results service with a race-day QR code and publish final results with series points the Monday after the event. The event supports The Brain Foundation, which provides housing for 36 people across nine homes; the race fundraising goal is to raise $20,000 to $30,000 toward roof replacement and annual maintenance.
