Event overview

The Elkhorn Relay is an annual, team-based relay held near La Grande, Oregon. The 2026 edition is the 11th running of the event and is organized by RUNOR Racing Co. It is contested by 6-person teams over a relay course of approximately 81 miles with about 6,000 feet of total elevation gain. The course reaches a high point of 7,400 feet above sea level.

Course and registration

The course starts at Hilgard Junction State Park and follows old Highway 244 south along the Grande Ronde River. After the river corridor the route climbs into backcountry and includes a 20+ mile section on gravel mountain roads. The later stages climb the backside of Anthony Lakes and finish with a trail leg at the ski resort. The event uses multiple relay legs so each team member runs a portion of the overall distance.
