Elkhorn Crest 50
Elkhorn Crest returns for 2026 as a mountain trail event near Sumpter, Oregon, based at Sumpter Fairgrounds. The event offers two distances and follows the Elkhorn Mountain ridgeline through sub-alpine forests and grasslands with panoramic views of Baker Valley, the Wallowas, and the Blue Mountains. The ridgeline course has an average elevation above 7,200 ft and combines smooth single track with rocky, technical sections along sustained climbs and descents.
- 50 Miler: 53 miles, 10,500 ft gain, about 11,000 ft loss
- 50K: roughly 6500 ft gain and 7100 ft loss
The 50K starts in the old mining town of Bourne, Oregon and follows the same route as the longer course before finishing after Aid Station 3. The event is cupless to minimize waste. Due to the remote mountain environment, every participant must carry the following gear at all times: capacity for 1.5 liters of fluid, a jacket (for example a Houdini), an emergency blanket, and a headlamp with extra batteries. Participants must have completed a trail ultramarathon prior to the race; registration may occur earlier but this requirement must be met before race day.
Registration closes on Saturday, August 1 at 11:59 PM PT. No transfers to another runner are allowed. Cancel 30 days or more before the race for a 50 percent credit toward next year; no refund if canceled within 30 days. If the organizer must cancel and the event cannot be rescheduled, refunds or race credits will not be given. Proceeds benefit the Baker City high school cross country and track team. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
