Elkhorn Crest
Elkhorn Crest is a mountain ultramarathon held in the Elkhorn Mountains, with the finish area and event base in Sumpter, Oregon. The event offers two distances:
- 53 mile
- 50K
The race is held in a remote mountain environment and requires prior completion of a trail ultramarathon before race day; registration is allowed before meeting this requirement but it must be fulfilled prior to the event. The course includes technical terrain and requires long periods of self-reliance.
Registration includes a shuttle to the start, a post-race meal, a finisher award, and free camping at the fairgrounds in Sumpter. Bib pickup is available on race morning at the fairgrounds. The event is cupless, so participants must bring their own cup or bottle.
Post-race food and beer are provided to runners and volunteers; friends and family may purchase these. Awards are given to the top three finishers in male, female, and non-binary divisions. The event benefits the Baker High School cross country team and a local 4x4 group.
Fairgrounds amenities include tent camping, showers for a fee that require quarters, and a limited number of RV sites on a first-come, first-served basis. Quiet hours at the fairgrounds begin at 9pm. Weather in the area can vary widely and can change suddenly. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
