Eastern Legend
Eastern Legend is a night trail event held on private ranchland near Gilmer, Texas (5293 State Hwy 300). The race was moved from Mission Tejas State Park because of construction and uses similar wooded trails on private property. Participants should not visit the ranch outside of the event.
The course runs on dirt single track trails through a humid, wooded landscape with hilly, rooty terrain and creek crossings. The organizer prepared nearly three miles of rugged singletrack on the property, which includes twisting turns, steep climbs, muddy stretches, occasional briar patches, and some out-and-back sections. Historic average nighttime temperatures are listed as 72 to 80 degrees.
Distances offered include:
- 5K
- 10K
- 13M (half marathon)
- 26M (marathon)
- 50K
- 10K Ruck
Support and logistics: aid stations are placed roughly every three miles with a main aid station at the start/finish offering hot and cold foods, snacks, water, electrolytes, pickle juice, and ice. Drop bags are allowed at the start/finish area. Parking and shuttle arrangements differ by distance; shorter distances park at Rowdy Creek Ranch and are shuttled, while marathon and 50K participants park at the private ranch. A ten hour cutoff applies to all races.
Required gear includes a headlamp and a personal water carrying system; participants should bring a water bottle or cup. Ruck weight rules apply: 30 lb if over 150 lb, 20 lb if under 150 lb. Organizers require proof of day pass payment at packet pickup. Registration is listed as closed. No littering and no cutting course rules apply.
