Eastern Legend
Gilmer, United States • 18-19 Jul 2026
Event Overview
The Eastern Legend is a night-time trail running event held on a private ranch in Gilmer, Texas. Originally associated with Mission Tejas State Park, the event currently takes place on a custom-built course located approximately 1.5 hours from Grapeland. The terrain consists of dirt single-track trails that feature creek crossings, steep climbs, and twisting turns through a dense, wooded environment.
Participants navigate a rugged landscape that includes hilly sections and muddy stretches. As the event takes place overnight under the stars, specific gear is mandatory for all runners. The historical average temperatures during the night range from 72 to 80 degrees.
Distances and Categories
The event offers several distances and a specialized ruck category:
- 5K
- 10K
- 13.1M (Half Marathon)
- 26.3M (Marathon)
- 50K
- 10K Ruck
The 10K Ruck includes specific weight requirements based on participant body weight: those over 150 lbs must carry a 30 lb ruck, while those under 150 lbs must carry 20 lbs.
Course Logistics
The course is designed as a rugged single-track loop with a main aid station located at the start/finish area, accessible every 3 miles. This station provides water, electrolytes, and various snacks. This is a no-cup event; all participants are required to carry their own water system, such as a bottle or vest. Additionally, a headlamp is mandatory gear for all distances.
Shuttle services are provided for participants in the 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon from a designated parking area at Rowdy Creek Ranch. Participants in the Marathon and 50K distances park directly at the private ranch. The event is part of the Texas Summer Night Series. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
