The course covers 6.0 miles (about 9.7 km) with approximately 990 feet (300 metres) of ascent. The route mixes towpath, bridleway, moorland, bogs, woodland and road, with a notable climb up Slaithwaite Moor to the top of Cupwith and a descent toward the finish at Zapato Brewery where refreshments are available.
