Darkwood Demon - Colne Valley trail race

Darkwood Demon is a trail race organised by Slaithwaite Striders RC on Sunday 13 September 2026 in the Colne Valley near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. The course is a single hilly lap that starts on valley trails and finishes at Zapato Brewery at Holme Mills, Marsden.

The route covers approximately 6.0 miles (9.7 km) with about 990 feet (300 metres) of ascent. Surfaces are mainly trail (about 85%) with some road (about 15%). The course takes in towpath, bridleway, moorland, bogs, woodland and short sections of road. A climb up Slaithwaite Moor to the top of Cupwith is followed by a fast descent toward the finish.

The race is chip timed and is fully marshalled and waymarked; navigation is not required. There are no compulsory kit requirements, but trail shoes are strongly recommended. Trophies are inscribed for first place male and female, with prizes for the top three male and female finishers and additional age category prizes. Course records are listed as male 36:58 and female 47:56.

Entry is limited to 250 places and minimum age for entrants is 16. Entry fees shown are £8.00 for affiliated runners and £10.00 for unaffiliated runners. Trail runs nearby

A 10 km (6 miles) fell race around Great Hucklow that crosses the Dark Peak and White Peak, run over varied upland terrain. The event is organised by local volunteers and finishers receive a flapjack at the finish.

A trail half marathon around Lyme Hall and the Gritstone Trail, with a fully marked route, two aid stations, electronic timing and parking included in the £36 fee. Finishers can choose a medal or a tree planting option.

A short 5 km fell race at the Langley Village Fete in the Peak District, featuring about 198 m of climb and on the day entry with a £5 fee; places are limited to 60 and parking in the village may be busy.

A pre-entry fell race in Hathersage with a 7.3 km course and 325 m climb across Whim Plantation, Over Owler Tor and Higger Tor. Event runs under FRA rules, uses electronic timing, and has limited parking and a strict no dogs policy.
