Darkwood Demon - Colne Valley trail race

The Darkwood Demon is a trail race in the Colne Valley near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, held on Sunday 13 September 2026. The course covers about 10 kilometres (approximately 6.0 miles / 9.7 km) with around 300 metres (990 feet) of ascent and is run over a single lap.

The route mixes surfaces and terrain, including towpath, bridleway, moorland, boggy ground, woodland and short sections of road. The course features a climb up Slaithwaite Moor to the top of Cupwith followed by a fast descent toward the finish at Zapato Brewery. The route is fully marshalled and waymarked, so navigation is not required. Trail shoes are strongly recommended. The race is chip timed.

The event is organised by Slaithwaite Striders RC and is licensed by the Trail Running Association; it will be held under UK Athletics rules. Minimum age for entrants is 16. Entry is limited to 250 places; remaining places were listed as 98 at the time of this information. Entry fees are shown as £8.00 for affiliated runners and £10.00 for unaffiliated runners, with a possible additional fee for on-the-day entry.

Prizes include inscribed trophies for first place male and female, prizes for the top three male and female finishers and age category prizes.
