The course is a rails-to-trails route on crushed gravel, running over scenic trestles, past farms and streams. Packet pickup is at Sweetbay Brewing Co. Drop bags are collected at packet pickup for the 50-mile race and placed at Damascus. Aid stations are located at Taylors Valley, Damascus, Alvarado, Watagua (water/soda/light snacks only), and the finish. Crew access differs by distance; for example, the 55K has crew access at Damascus, Alvarado, and the finish.
Mandatory equipment includes a hydration pack or bottle (16 oz minimum), 500 calories of fuel, and a reusable cup (cupless event). Pacers are allowed for the 50-mile race from specified trailheads; unregistered pacers for 55K runners will result in disqualification. The event notes that wheelchairs are not suitable for the mountain trail; athletes with disabilities may use tethers, prosthetics, crutches, braces, or poles with approval and must be able to finish within the event cutoff.
