The Dam Yeti 50/55K & PEPSI CHALLENGE
The Dam Yeti is an ultramarathon event offering three race distances: a 50 Miler, a 55K, and a shorter PEPSI CHALLENGE. The event takes place in the area of Abingdon, Virginia. The start location for the 50 Miler and 55K races is at 300 Green Spring Road in Abingdon. Both races finish at Sweetbay Brewing Co. in Abingdon. The 50 Miler has a cutoff time of 13 hours and 59 minutes. The 55K has a cutoff time of 9 hours and 59 minutes.
The course is point-to-point, described as having downhill sections with forest views. It passes through the town of Damascus. A notable feature mentioned is a broken Pepsi machine located between Damascus and Alvarado. The race is cupless, meaning participants must carry their own hydration system. A morning shuttle service is available from the Abingdon Trailhead. Crew access is possible at certain points on the course.
The PEPSI CHALLENGE is a 25K race held the day after the main events. It starts at the referenced Pepsi machine and finishes at The Meadows on Cook Street in Abingdon. A special award is given for completing both a Saturday race and the Sunday 25K.
The Dam Yeti 50/55K is part of a larger race series called 'From Start to Heart'. This series also includes the Troublesome Hollow 50K in spring and the Yeti 100 in fall. A single series registration covers all three events. The event is chip-timed by Zen Arcade Timing. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
