Event overview
The Dam Yeti endurance races are held in Abingdon, Virginia and include multiple point-to-point trail distances. Distances offered include:
- 50 mile
- 55K
- 25K Pepsi Challenge
The 50-mile course is USATF certified (VA19002MS). Race timing is provided by ZEN ARCADE TIMING. Packet pickup is at Sweetbay Brewing Co. Finish locations include Sweetbay Brewing Co. for the main races and The Meadows (78 Cook St, Abingdon, VA) for the Pepsi Challenge. Finishers receive a custom Yeti medal; there is a special award for competitors who complete both the Saturday and Sunday races.
Course and logistics
Both main courses follow the Virginia Creeper Trail on crushed gravel rails-to-trails, passing trestles, farms, rolling hills, and streams. The first 9.8 miles include sharp spent coal on the route; runners are advised to take care. Aid stations are located at Taylors Valley, Damascus, Alvarado, Watagua (water, soda, light snacks only), and the finish line.
Mandatory equipment includes a hydration pack or bottle (minimum 16 oz), 500 calories of fuel, and a reusable cup because the event is cupless. Drop bags are collected at packet pickup for the 50 mile and placed at Damascus. Pacers are allowed for the 50 mile from designated trailheads; unregistered pacers for the 55K will result in disqualification. Crew access points differ by distance and include Damascus, Alvarado, Watagua (50 mile only), and the finish. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
