The point-to-point course starts at Creeper Trail Trestle #1 (300 Green Spring Road) and finishes at Sweetbay Brewing Co. (149 Deadmore St SE), with a separate finish location for the Pepsi Challenge at The Meadows (78 Cook St). Drop bags are collected at packet pickup and placed at Damascus for 50 mile runners. A custom medal is awarded to all finishers and there is a special award for athletes who complete both the Saturday and Sunday races.

Course, support and rules

The route follows the Virginia Creeper Trail, a rails-to-trails corridor of crushed gravel that passes trestles, farms, and streams. Course notes warn about sharp spent coal in the first 9.8 miles. Aid stations are located at Taylors Valley, Damascus, Alvarado, Watagua (water, soda, light snacks only), and the finish. Crew access points differ by distance: Damascus and Alvarado are available for 55K; Damascus, Alvarado, Watagua, and the finish are crew access points for the 50 mile. Pacers are allowed for the 50 mile from specified trailhead locations; unregistered pacers for 55K and crew members on bikes for any race are grounds for disqualification.
