Course, support, and rules

The course runs through Huddart Park, King's Mountain, and Bear Gulch among redwoods and ferns. Course markings are color coded by distance and polka-dot flagging indicates turns. Blue ribbons mark wrong directions. Headphones are allowed only on dirt road sections and are not allowed on single-track, when crossing paved roads, at aid stations, or across the finish line.

Elevation gain by distance ranges from 710 feet for the 8K to 4,530 feet for the 50K. Surfaces are primarily single-track and dirt road with some asphalt. Fully stocked aid stations appear every 5 to 9 miles with fruit, salty snacks, candy, water, and Skratch drink; runners are advised to carry at least 20 oz of water between aid stations. The event is cupless; runners should bring their own fluid container. Timing uses MyLaps bib tags and results are published online periodically.
