Course and logistics

The route passes through Huddart Park, King’s Mountain, and Bear Gulch on trails lined with redwoods and ferns. The course is marked with ribbon approximately every 200 yards and color coded by distance; polka-dot flagging indicates required turns and blue ribbons mark incorrect routes. Headphones are allowed only on dirt road sections and are not permitted on single-track trail, when crossing paved roads, at aid stations, or at the finish.

Elevation gain and surface breakdown:

  • 8K: 710' gain; single track 48%, dirt road 40%, asphalt 12%.
  • Half Marathon: 2,190' gain; single track 78%, dirt road 18%, asphalt 4%.
  • 35K: 2,990' gain; single track 87%, dirt road 11%, asphalt 2%.
  • Marathon: 3,790' gain; single track 72%, dirt road 26%, asphalt 2%.
  • 50K: 4,530' gain; single track 72%, dirt road 26%, asphalt 2%.

Aid stations are fully stocked every 5 to 9 miles with fruit, salty snacks, candy, water, and Skratch electrolyte drink; participants are advised to carry at least 20 oz between stations. The event is cupless; participants should bring their own fluid container. Parking is $6 per vehicle; no dogs are allowed in the park.
