The route crosses private ranchland, public land and forest service areas, and passes through territory of the Apsaalooke people (the range is also referred to as Awaxaawippíia). The route is primarily single track and point-to-point, with roughly 23,000 feet of vertical gain and high points near 10,200 feet. Terrain descriptions include technical ascents and descents, jagged cliffs, scree fields, long sections with no trail, two-track, occasional forest service road, and high alpine lakes.
The event notes that multiple family-owned ranches provide access and support along the route and that finish-area camping and a post-race awards gathering are provided near the finish location.
