Copper Kings 100 - Butte, Montana
The Copper Kings 100 is a single-loop ultramarathon that starts and finishes at the Belmont Mine in Butte. The course is 100 mile in length and includes about 63 miles on the Continental Divide Trail. Runners encounter high-altitude terrain with a starting elevation near 5,650 feet, a highest point around 8,400 feet, and roughly 13,960 feet of total vertical gain and loss.
The route places much of the elevation gain between the first and last aid stations, and some aid station gaps exceed 17 miles. The event uses a 40 hour overall cutoff and offers a fully inclusive field with a nonbinary division. Historically recorded finishing performances and completion rates are provided for reference.
Onward Endurance LLC produces the event in partnership with the Montana Endurance Trail Foundation. The race takes place in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest and in Butte-Silver Bow and Jefferson counties, and it is permitted by the relevant local and federal agencies.
For coaching support, an official partner developed a free 20-week, race-specific training plan and organizes pre-race group runs, with optional paid coaching available. The 2026 event has a runner cap of 150. Net proceeds benefit several regional organizations including Our Lady of the Rockies, Mile High Nordic Ski Education Foundation, and the Continental Divide Trail Coalition.
