Course and logistics
Runners begin in a field, move onto rolling singletrack to the Hammond Trail, ascend on the Hammond Trail to the Liberty Trail junction, descend to a main aid station, then run rolling singletrack to the Brook Trail before looping over the Mount Chocorua summit on rocky and root-filled trails with steep ledges and several river and brook crossings. Aid station and checkpoint structure listed in race materials shows an aid at about 6.0 miles, a summit checkpoint at about 10.0 miles, and the finish at about 14.2 miles.
Mandatory gear checked at packet pickup includes at least 1 liter of fluids, 400 calories of food, a windbreaker or rain shell, and a space or emergency foil blanket. The event is cupless; participants must bring their own hydration system. There are no crew-accessible locations on course, pacers are not permitted, and there are no on-course drop bags (drop bags allowed at start/finish). An approximate time limit of nine hours is noted. Qualifications require prior experience: completion of a hilly, moderately technical trail race of at least 10 miles or equivalent mountain experience.
