Course Overview
The Chocorua Mountain Race is the opening event of the White Mountain Endurance Cup. The course starts and finishes on Scott Road in Tamworth, New Hampshire, within the White Mountain National Forest. The total distance is 23K with approximately 4,800 feet of climbing.
Race Details
The race begins with a fast, flat section through a field before reaching the Hammond Trailhead singletrack. The first major ascent climbs 1,900 feet over 2.8 miles on the Hammond Trail. Runners then turn onto the Liberty Trail, descending more than 1,600 feet over 2.5 miles to reach the sole on-course aid station.
From the aid station, the course proceeds on rolling singletrack to the Brook Trail. This section leads runners on a loop over the summit of Mount Chocorua (3,478 feet). The terrain includes rocks, roots, boulders, steep ledges, and crossings of rivers and brooks. The final descent follows the Liberty Trail back to its junction with the Hammond Trail, then finishes with a 2.8-mile, 1,900-foot descent to the finish line.
Mandatory Gear & Logistics
Due to exposed mountain terrain and variable weather, all runners must carry specific mandatory gear. This includes: 1 liter of fluids, 400 calories of food, a windbreaker or rain shell, and a space blanket. Gear will be checked at bib pickup on race morning. The event is cupless; runners must bring their own hydration system as no disposable cups are provided at aid stations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
