Event Overview
The Chippewa Trail Races take place on April 25, 2026. The event offers several trail running distances: a 50K, a 50K relay for two-person teams, a 20-mile race, and a 10K. The races are based at the David R. Obey (Chippewa Moraine) Ice Age Interpretive Center near New Auburn, Wisconsin.
Location and Logistics
The start and finish area is at the Interpretive Center on County Highway M. Parking is available in a small lot and along the driveway. Packet pickup is offered the evening before the race and on race morning. The event has a no-external-music policy on the course.
The Course
The courses are primarily single-track trails using the Ice Age Trail and the Circle Trail. They are marked with pink flags and ribbon. The terrain includes forests, views of numerous lakes, and several hills. Runners will encounter features like boardwalks and bridges. The courses for the 50K, relay, and 20-mile races are out-and-back, while the 10K is a loop.
Race Details
- 50K: This distance has multiple aid stations, allows drop bags at the turnaround, and has a 9-hour finish cut-off. Field limit is 180.
- 50K Relay: Teams of two run the 50K course, with one runner to the turnaround and the other back. Teams are responsible for their own transportation between legs. Limit of 35 teams.
- 20-Miler: This race has aid stations and a 7-hour finish cut-off. Field limit is 150.
- 10K: This race has one aid station and a 2-hour finish cut-off. Field limit is 120.
