Chester Ultra 50 : event overview

Chester Ultra 50 is a trail ultramarathon held near Chester on Saturday 27th February 2027. The race covers 50 miles with 849 m of ascent and is the 11th edition organised by GB Ultras. The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UK Athletics rules, and it awards ITRA points and UTMB mountain performance index points.

The route links sections of the Sandstone Trail and the North Cheshire Way and passes through Helsby Hill, Delamere Forest and Frodsham. The course is waymarked, includes a canal towpath section and benefits from live GPS tracking plus a downloadable GPX file. There are seven checkpoints along the route; Checkpoint 1 is water only and other checkpoints provide a range of refreshments and basic medical cover.

Entrants must be at least 20 years old and must have completed an organised marathon prior to race day. A 17 hour overall cut off applies. Mandatory kit must be carried at all times and will be checked; required items include a waterproof coat with sealed seams, a long sleeved base layer, at least 1 litre of water, a charged mobile phone in waterproof cover, a foil blanket, headtorch plus a secondary torch and a whistle. No dropbags, pacers or support runners are permitted.

Trail runs nearby

A ladies five mile trail race in Worsley on 3 May 2026, organised by Swinton Running Club and based at Beesley Green Community Centre. Online entries open at midnight on 31 December and standard ticket fees apply.

A 6.9 km running event at Ysgol Dinas Bran in Llangollen with 350 m of ascent. The course is partially marked, minimum age over 16, day-entry fee £5, with refreshments plus showers and changing available.

A summer evening charity run at Marbury Park with a 5k adult race and 1k kids' fun run, plus BBQ, bar, cake stall and music. Proceeds go to The Stroke Association and all finishers receive a medal.

Run 24 hours along Offa's Dyke National Trail from Prestatyn on May 9 2026. Solo and team entries offer a continuous coastal to countryside challenge with staffed checkpoints and a finishers medal to mark your achievement.
