Event

The Chester Ultra 50 Mile is a 50-mile trail ultramarathon held on Saturday 28 February 2026 and organised by GB Ultras. The course totals 50 miles with 849 m of ascent. The event has 500 places, an entry fee of £119, and a 17 hour overall cut-off. The 2026 race marks the event's tenth anniversary and is held under UKA and Trail Running Association permits. The 2026 event is listed as sold out (update 09/09/2025).

Course and logistics

The well-marked route links the North Cheshire Way and the Sandstone Trail and passes Helsby Hill, Delamere Forest and Frodsham. There are seven checkpoints; Checkpoint 1 is water only, other checkpoints provide drinks and food plus medical cover. The start and finish venue is Ellesmere Port Sports Village athletics track.

Support crews and race rules

Support crews are restricted by parking limits. No support crew access is permitted at Checkpoints 1, 4, 6 and 7. A single vehicle per runner is permitted; other checkpoint limits apply. Pacers and support runners are not allowed. Dogs are not permitted at checkpoints or the start/finish venue, except service dogs.

Entry requirements, kit and safety

Runners must be at least 20 years old and must have completed an organised marathon prior to the race. Dropbags are not permitted. A GPS tracker is mandatory and must be returned or a replacement charge will apply. Mandatory kit includes a waterproof coat with sealed seams, long-sleeved base layer, minimum 1 litre water carriage, fully charged mobile phone in waterproof covering, foil blanket, headtorch (min 75 lumens), secondary headtorch and whistle.
