About the race
The Chester Ultra 50 is a 50 miles trail ultramarathon organised by GB Ultras, held on Saturday 27 February 2027 as the event's 11th edition. The route covers approximately 849 m of ascent and links trails including the Sandstone Trail and the North Cheshire Way, passing Helsby Hill, Delamere Forest and Frodsham. The course is waymarked and supported by seven checkpoints, with the first checkpoint offering water only. The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UK Athletics rules.
It awards ITRA points and UTMB mountain performance index points. Entrants must be at least 20 years old and must have completed an organised marathon-distance event prior to race day. A 17 hour overall cut-off applies. Mandatory kit must be carried at all times and includes items such as a waterproof coat, long sleeve base layer, minimum 1 litre water container, charged mobile phone in waterproof cover, foil blanket, headtorch and a secondary torch.
A race tracker device is issued and is part of mandatory kit. Random kit checks will take place. Dropbags are not permitted and pacers or support runners are not allowed. The event start and finish are at Ellesmere Port Sports Village, Athletics Track, Stanney Lane, Ellesmere Port CH65 9LB.
Dogs except service dogs are not permitted at the venue or checkpoints. The 2027 race is sold out; transfers are allowed up to three weeks before race day and a limited number of places remain via Grand Slam or charity partners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
