The Chester Ultra 50 is a 50 miles trail ultra held in the Chester area on 28 February 2026. The course has approximately 849 m of ascent and a field limit of 500 places. The event is organised by GB Ultras under a UKA permit and a Trail Running Association permit; it is eligible for ITRA and UTMB mountain performance index points (allocation tbc). The race has an overall cut-off of 17 hours. The 2026 edition is the 10th anniversary and was listed as sold out, with places transferable up to 07/02/2026. The published entry fee is £119.
Qualifying criteria require entrants to be at least 20 years old on race day, in good health, and to have previously completed an organised marathon-distance race.
Route, support and rules
The route links canal towpaths with the North Cheshire Way and the Sandstone Trail, passing Delamere Forest, Helsby Hill and Frodsham. There are seven checkpoints along the course; Checkpoint 1 is water only, other checkpoints provide drinks, sandwiches, snacks and medical cover. Support crew access is restricted at several checkpoints (including CP1, CP4, CP6 and CP7) and dropbags are not permitted.
Mandatory kit must be carried and may be checked; required items include a waterproof coat, long-sleeved base layer, at least 1 litre water capacity, a fully charged mobile phone in waterproof covering, foil blanket, headtorch plus a secondary headtorch, and a whistle.
