Challenge the Shield Adventure Run
Challenge the Shield is an adventure running weekend in Parry Sound, Ontario on May 1 and 2, 2027. The main Adventure Run takes place on Sunday; Saturday offers optional adventure running training and the Team Canada Orienteering Challenge.
Teams of two run or trek to as many checkpoint challenges as they choose across windswept pines, lakes and granite rock barrens. Each checkpoint has a difficulty rating and points value so teams decide which checkpoints to attempt and how to allocate their time and navigation.
Race distances and scoring
- 6-hour Adventure Run: up to 36 checkpoints; about 35 km; max 2,500 points.
- 3-hour Adventure Run: up to 20 checkpoints; about 17.5 km; max 1,250 points.
Categories include coed, male, female and masters for the 6-hour race, and open, juniors and family for the 3-hour race. Teams that reach point thresholds receive Gold, Silver or Bronze CTS stickers for 2,000, 1,500 and 1,000 points. The overall coed winning team receives the event mascot each year.
Entry is by team with a cap of 100 teams; fees vary by registration period. An event guide with rules and required gear will be available before the race and optional Saturday training details are provided for those who wish to practice navigation.
