Cateran Trail Ultramarathon : event overview

The Cateran Trail Ultramarathon is scheduled for 09 May 2026. The race is a circular route that starts and finishes at Gulabin Lodge, Spittal of Glenshee, Blairgowrie PH10 7QE. Course and format

The route is approximately 90% off road and is made up of forest trails, rough tracks and open hillside. There are small sections of tarmac on quiet country roads. The final section includes a climb to An Lairig Pass with a descent back to Gulabin Lodge. The race is designed to be self-sufficient; support crews are not part of the event design.

Cutoffs, kit and entry

Declared cutoffs include a checkpoint at Blairgowrie and a strict cutoff at Enochdu after which runners will not continue onto the open hill section. The overall time limit is 15 hours. Mandatory kit must be carried and will be spot-checked; required items include a full-size foil blanket, a working mobile phone, and a means to carry at least 1 litre of water. Race rules prohibit transfer of places, muling, walking poles, support runners or bikes, and dogs. Entry refunds follow a staged policy with an initial 30-day cooling-off administration fee.
