Cateran Trail Ultramarathon 2026

The event is a circular ultramarathon around the Cateran Trail, starting and finishing at Gulabin Lodge, Spittal of Glenshee. The route is approximately 55 miles / 90 km with 7,450 ft / 2,250 m of ascent. About 90% of the course is off road, consisting of forest trails, rough tracks and open hillside, with small sections of quiet country tarmac. The final section includes a climb to An Lairig Pass with a descent back to Gulabin Lodge. The race is listed as an UTMB Index qualifier.

Entry, cut-offs, rules and kit

Total places are 150 and entries are open. Standard entry fee is £95 with a discounted rate of £93 available until 12 April 2026 for members of certain running clubs. The event has a 15-hour overall cut-off and additional strict checkpoint cut-offs; runners will not be permitted to continue onto the open hill section after the Enochdu checkpoint cut-off.

The race is designed to be self-sufficient; support crews and vehicle following are not part of the event. Race rules include no transfer of places, no muling, no walking poles, no support runners or bikes, and no dogs. Mandatory kit to be carried will be confirmed before the race but includes a full-size emergency foil blanket, a working mobile phone, and a means to carry at least 1 litre of water.
