Highlander Last One Standing
The Highlander Last One Standing is a backyard ultra held in Perthshire, Scotland. The format requires runners to complete a single loop of 4.167 miles every hour; any runner not finished and at the start ready for the next loop is disqualified. Loops continue hourly until one runner completes a solo loop within the time limit and is declared the winner.
The course includes changes in elevation but is described as achievable within the one hour limit. Runners may use a gazebo or aid station at the start/finish. Mandatory kit carried by each runner includes a foil blanket, water bottle or bladder or soft flasks, food or energy bars, a working mobile phone with the race control number entered, a small first aid kit, and a race vest to hold equipment. Recommended items include hat, gloves, waterproofs, suntan lotion, warm top or base layer, change of clothes for the finish, sunglasses, and midge net or spray.
Race rules prohibit muling, walking poles, support runners or bike buddies, and dogs on the course. The use of specified NSAIDs during the event is prohibited. Support crew must attend registration with a completed Covid-19 questionnaire and support crew information form. Deferrals are not offered except for travel restrictions or lockdowns; refund terms include a 30 day cooling-off period with a £15 administration fee, 50% refund after 30 days up to 12 weeks before race day, and no refund within 12 weeks of the event.
