Broken Goat takes place on July 18, 2026 and features multiple trail races around Rossland in the West Kootenay region. Courses run through high alpine terrain with ridge lines and single-track sections.
Distances offered:
- 50 km point-to-point on the "7 Summits" high alpine trail.
- 25 km traverse along the "7 Summits" and Unnecessary Ridge.
- 12 km climb from Red Mountain Resort base to the summit of Red Mountain.
- Kids race about 1.5 km, untimed.
The 50 km route includes Old Glory at 2376 m. Recorded elevation changes are: 50 km ascent 2492 m / descent 2906 m; 25 km ascent 1000 m / descent 1400 m; 12 km ascent/descent 623 m. The 25 km course averages around 2000 m elevation for much of its length.
The 50 km and 25 km are point-to-point courses and require shuttle transport or arranged drop-off. Aid stations serve as checkpoints, including Granite Mountain and Reservoir; drop bag access is available for 50 km at Aid #1 and Aid #2. Runners on the longer distances should be prepared to be self-sufficient until the first aid station near 22 km.
Mandatory items for 50 km and 25 km include a lightweight jacket, emergency blanket, at least 1.5 litres of fluid and a minimum of 400 calories of food. For 12 km the minimum is 1 litre of fluid and 200 calories. Random mandatory gear checks will be performed and missing items may result in disqualification.
The kids race welcomes all ages, typically sees participants aged 5 to 10, requires adults to accompany children under 5, is entry-fee based with proceeds to Georgia's Wish / CMHA, and includes a bib and finishers' treat. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
