BROKEN GOAT Overview

BROKEN GOAT takes place on July 18, 2026 in the Red Mountain / Rossland area of the West Kootenay region, British Columbia. Distances offered include:

The event uses high alpine trails. The 12 km course starts at the base of Red Mountain Resort and climbs to the summit of Red Mountain on single track. The 25 km course is a point-to-point traverse on the "7 Summits" trail and Unnecessary Ridge and includes the summit of Mount Plewman, with much of the route near an average elevation of 2000 m. The 50 km course is a point-to-point high alpine traverse on the "7 Summits" trail, accessing several peaks including Old Glory at 2376 m; racers must be prepared for remote alpine terrain and to be self-supported until Grey Mountain about 23 km into the course.

Logistics and rules

Organizers require mandatory gear and on-course checks. For 50 km and 25 km runners the required start items include a lightweight jacket, an emergency blanket, at least 1.5 litres of carrying capacity for fluids, and a minimum of 400 calories of food. For 12 km runners the minimum is 1.0 litre and 200 calories. The race is cupless; athletes must carry their own cup or hydration system. Aid stations act as mandatory checkpoints; crew access is limited to specified aid station locations, pacers are not allowed, and poles are permitted.
