Black Spur Ultra is staged at Kimberley Alpine Resort in Kimberley, BC. The event takes place over two days and uses the local single and double track trail network accessible from the resort. Distances offered include a half marathon, 21k, 54k, and 108k, with relay options for the 54k and 108k. Solo finishers in the qualifying distances may use the course as a UTMB qualifier.

Elevation gain and loss is listed as 2,230 m for the 54k and 4,460 m for the 108k. Time limits are published per distance (for example, 12 hours for the 54k and 24 hours for the 108k). The transition area is at Kimberley Alpine Resort and allows drop bags; it is staffed and provides drinking water and snack food. Each stage has one staffed aid station at about the halfway point; aid stations provide water and snack food and do not allow gear caching. Support crews may meet runners at the transition area but are asked not to meet runners at aid stations. The event is capped at 500 racers and has a registration deadline of August 17 (or when full). Medical support is provided by EMTs and paramedics. Participants receive a race shirt, post-race meal entry, and event photos; solo finishers receive a Black Spur item and relay finishers receive a custom medal.
