Bizz Johnson's Southside Scramble is a trail race in the Susan River Canyon near Susanville, CA. The event includes three distances:

  • 22K
  • 14K
  • 7K

All races start and finish at the Hobo Camp Day Use Area and use a loop course that combines the Bizz Johnson Trail and the Southside singletrack across the river. For odd-numbered years the course is run in reverse. The event is capped at 150 runners total across all three distances.

Race details and logistics

The race is a cup-less event; participants must bring a collapsible cup or hydration system. Aid stations serve fruit, salty snacks, Heed electrolyte drink, and water. Known aid station locations: Aid Station #1 on the Bizz Johnson Trail at the lower end of the lower tunnel (mile 3.8), Aid Station #2 at Devil's Corral at the Southside trail turnoff (mile 5.94, 22K), and Aid Station #3 on the Southside Trail just above the Twin Bridges access - about 2 miles from the finish. Packet pickup is available at the Susanville Historic Train Depot and at the Hobo Camp Day Use Area on race morning. Parking at Hobo Camp is limited; additional parking is available at Miller Road trailhead and at the Bizz Johnson Trailhead across from the Susanville Historic Train Depot. All finishers receive a custom medal and a microfiber towel; overall and 10-year age-group awards are given.
