The event traces its origins to 2004 and has been held annually since then. It takes place in and near the Big Bend national and state park area, a region of more than 300,000 acres that lies several hours from San Antonio. Because of the remote setting, water, fuel, and transportation resources are limited in the area.
The location’s isolation also produces very low light pollution, which affects the character of the venue and creates favorable conditions for stargazing.
