Course and event details
The race starts and finishes at Coffenbury Lake at picnic shelter "C" and uses the park's hiking and biking trails. Much of the route is on asphalt paved trails and is described as flat. The last couple of miles around Coffenbury Lake are the only trail section; that section is generally rolling and light-technical. The route passes through two underpasses and goes over a bridge.
Fort Stevens State Park features beach access, freshwater lake swimming, trails, wildlife viewing, a historic shipwreck, and a historic military area. The Ruck Challenge is a 12-mile movement with a 35-pound pack base weight and is described as a timed effort to be completed in around or under three hours. The ruck challenge was introduced in 2024.
