The Antelope Island Buffalo Run is a spring trail race on Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake. The 2026 spring edition offers these distances:
- 25K (~16.48 miles)
- 50K (~31 miles)
- 50 Mile
Registration is expected to open around October 18, 2025 through RunSignUp. A new organizing team will direct the event in 2026. The 100-mile distance will not be part of the spring event in 2026 and has been moved to the Fall Classic.
Course, logistics and rules
Courses run on island singletrack and dirt roads with views of the lake. Typical route features include the marina start/finish area, Mountain View Trail, the dirt road along the fence, Lakeside Trail, Bridger Bay campground, White Rock Bay trailhead, the Elephant Head out-and-back, and the Split Rock Loop. Approximate elevation gain listed by the organizer:
- 25K: ~1,768 ft
- 50K: ~3,038 ft
- 50 Mile: ~3,428 ft
Aid stations are supplied with standard ultra food and beverages; some longer-distance aid stations may offer hot items overnight. Drop bag locations differ by distance; the 25K has no drop bags. Pacers are not allowed for the 25K and 50K; crew and pacer rules apply for the 50 Mile with access limited to designated aid stations. Runners must follow park rules: no littering, yield to horses, and keep to designated trails. The course may cross areas visited by wild bison and other wildlife; organizers advise caution. Awards include prize money for top three finishers by gender category and 10-year age-group awards; finishers receive a handmade coffee mug.
