Antelope Island Buffalo Run
The Antelope Island Buffalo Run is a spring trail-racing event held on Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake. The event in 2026 takes place in late March and offers multiple race distances on marked singletrack and service roads that pass through desert grasslands and lakeshore terrain.
Race distances:
- 25K (about 16.4 miles)
- 50K (about 31 miles)
- 50 Mile
Course routes use the marina start/finish area and include the Mountain View Trail, Lakeside and White Rock Bay trails, Elephant Head out-and-back, Bridger Bay campground, and the Split Rock Loop. Course markings include ribbons, flour arrows, signs, and reflective grade stakes; intersections where a wrong turn is possible are marked.
Logistics and race operations include electronic registration (RunSignUp), designated aid stations, and drop bag rules: no drop bags for the 25K; limited drop bag locations for the 50K and 50 Mile distances. Crew and pacer access is restricted to designated aid stations and specific rules apply for night access and island gate times. Time limits and cutoff policies are enforced; remote sections have hard cutoffs to protect runners and support logistics.
The race notes frequent wildlife on course, including wild bison and other native animals; participants are responsible for their own safety around wildlife and must follow park rules. Camping is available near the marina and park entrance fees apply. Prize money and course record bonuses are offered for several distances.
