Antelope Island Buffalo Run
The Antelope Island Buffalo Run is a trail running event held on Antelope Island in Syracuse, Utah. Established in 2006, the event takes place in a natural setting featuring views of the Great Salt Lake and desert grasslands. The landscape is home to herds of wild bison, which are frequently seen along the course routes.
The event utilizes rolling singletrack trails and offers three distinct race distances to accommodate different endurance levels:
- 50 Miles: Approximately 3,428 feet of elevation gain with a 17-hour cutoff.
- 50K: Approximately 3,038 feet of elevation gain with a 16-hour cutoff.
- 25K: Approximately 1,687 feet of elevation gain with a 15-hour cutoff.
The race utilizes a prize purse for participants who break established course records in the male or female divisions for any of the three distances. Registration fees contribute toward park initiatives, including wildlife research, animal care, and the development of a new visitor center on the island. The event attracts participants from across the Mountain West region for a spring day of endurance sports in a unique island environment.
