Event overview
The Antelope Island Buffalo Run is a trail running event on Antelope Island State Park that typically offers multiple distances:
- 25K
- 50K
- 50 mile
- 100 mile (historically offered; may not be run every year)
The event uses a marina start/finish area and proceeds on island trails including Mountain View Trail, Lakeside Trail, White Rock Bay, Elephant Head, Bridger Bay and Split Rock Loop. Course layouts differ by distance; the 50 mile and 100 mile share the same loop (run twice for 100 mile), while the 25K and 50K follow shorter variants with shared sections.
Logistics, rules and services
Aid stations are located at key trailheads; some aid stations offer hot items for the longer races. Drop bags are allowed at specified aid stations for the 50K, 50 mile and 100 mile distances; none are allowed for the 25K. Crews and pacers are permitted for the 50 mile and 100 mile with rules about where they may meet runners; pacers are not allowed for the 25K and 50K. Course marking uses ribbons, signs and reflective stakes. The race is hand timed with an electronic timing system and paper backup. Awards include prize money for top overall finishers and handmade finisher mugs for finishers; the 100-mile finisher award includes a belt buckle. Runners must follow park rules, respect wildlife (bison can be dangerous), and check in at aid stations as required. Camping is available near the marina for an additional fee.
