Ancient Lakes Trail Run
The Ancient Lakes Trail Run is a trail running event in the desert landscape of central Washington along the Columbia River Gorge. The course features a cloverleaf design with rolling terrain. The event offers several distances: 50 miles, 50 kilometers, a marathon (approximately 26.2 miles), 25 kilometers, and 10 kilometers.
The 25k loop is the core course, consisting of three smaller color-coded loops (red, green, blue) that start and finish at a common aid station. The terrain includes single-track trails with canyon-like gorges, desert lakes, basalt rock outcroppings, and waterfalls. The course has approximately 1,700 feet of elevation gain for the 25k distance. Aid stations are located at the start/finish area.
- 50 miles: 9 loops (~51.5 miles, ~6,000 feet of gain)
- 50 kilometers: 6 loops (~34 miles, ~3,400 feet of gain)
- Marathon: 5 loops (~28 miles, ~2,800 feet of gain)
- 25 kilometers: 3 loops (~17 miles, ~1,700 feet of gain)
- 10 kilometers: 1 green loop (~6.2 miles, ~700 feet of gain)
All runners are required to carry a hydration system capable of holding at least 16 ounces of fluid. The aid stations are cupless. Pacers are only allowed for the 50-mile race. The event is USATF sanctioned. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
