Event Overview
The Ancient Lakes Trail Run takes place in the Washington Desert near Quincy, along the banks of the Columbia River Gorge. The course features canyon-like gorges, desert lakes, and waterfalls. The terrain consists of rolling trails primarily on single track paths.
Course Details
The event uses a cloverleaf design where participants return to a central aid and drop bag station at the start/finish area after completing specific loops. The three main loops are color-coded:
- Red Loop: Passes by a waterfall and basalt rock outcroppings.
- Green Loop: Leads to a desert lake and through canyon-like terrain.
- Blue Loop: Drops into the Columbia River Gorge and runs along the river before climbing back out.
Available Distances
- 50 Miles: Approximately 51.5 miles over 9 loops with 6,000 feet of elevation gain.
- 50 km: Approximately 34 miles over 6 loops with 3,400 feet of elevation gain.
- Marathon: 5 loops including a full 25k circuit plus extra red and green loops, with 2,800 feet of elevation gain.
- 25 km: Approximately 17 miles over 3 loops with 1,700 feet of elevation gain.
- 10 km: 1 loop on the green course with 700 feet of elevation gain.
Participant Requirements
This is a cupless event. All runners are required to carry a hydration system capable of holding at least 16oz of fluid. Verification of hydration gear is mandatory during packet pick-up.
Logistics
The start/finish line is located at the Bishop Recreation Area. Field support includes aid stations with water, electrolyte drinks, and snacks. Finishers receive medals for most distances, while 50 Mile finishers receive a buckle. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
