Aletsch Halbmarathon
The Aletsch Halbmarathon is an annual running event held in the Swiss Alps, specifically within the UNESCO World Heritage area. The event spans two days and features different competitions for various ages and distances.
The main event is a 21.1 km mountain run. The route is characterized by its views of the Great Aletsch Glacier and the surrounding four-thousand-meter peaks of the Valais region. This race is limited to a maximum of approximately 2,700 participants from both Switzerland and abroad.
In addition to the half marathon, the event schedule includes:
- Aletsch Samstagsrennen (Saturday races)
- Minirun for younger participants
- UNESCO Welterbe-Trophy
The event center provides various services including luggage transport, accommodation options, and a lost and found office. Spectators can follow the race from designated hotspots throughout the course, which are accessible via local transport. The organizers emphasize sustainability and provide a framework program for both athletes and visitors. Registration for the upcoming edition opens in November.
