Aletsch Halbmarathon

The Aletsch Halbmarathon is a mountain running event located within a UNESCO World Heritage site. The main race covers a distance of 21.1 km and features views of the Great Aletsch Glacier and the surrounding four-thousand-meter peaks of the Valais Alps. Participation is limited to 2,700 runners.

In addition to the half marathon, the event includes:

  • Aletsch Samstagsrennen (Saturday races)
  • Minirun (specifically for younger participants)
  • Nordic Walking category

The half marathon course reaches an altitude of 2,700 meters at the finish line on the Bettmerhorn. Participants start in seven timed blocks based on their expected performance. The route includes seven refreshment stations providing water, tea, isotonic drinks, energy bars, and fruit.

Logistical services include luggage transport from the Bettmeralp mountain station to the Bachtla sports center. Showers, changing rooms, and massage services are available at the Bachtla sports center after the race. The Swiss Runners Ticket allows for free travel to and from the event from within Switzerland via SBB, including specific local cable cars. Timekeeping is conducted via electronic chips, recording the net time from the start line to the finish.

Course safety is monitored by the Samariterverein Betten-Bettmeralp with several medical posts along the route. Strict time limits are enforced; participants must reach Moosfluh by 13:30 and the finish line by 15:00 to be classified. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
