Yr Wyddfa Sea to Summit Mountain Ultramarathon

This one-day ultramarathon follows a sea to summit route from Caernarfon Castle to Bron y Feds Uchaf, Rhyd Ddu. The course distance is 29 miles (47km) with about 5600 ft of ascent. The route is fully waymarked with bright orange arrows and supported by professional mountain safety staff at key locations.

Cut offs are applied and set to a 3mph completion pace. There are several pit stops along the route that provide toilets, basic medical help and a minimum selection of food and drink including water, hot drinks, salty snacks, sweets and fruit. Participants who miss the cut off at the second pit stop are offered a shorter summit route of about 20.5 miles and 5175 ft of ascent.

Medical provision is supplied by a professional event medic service with paramedics and doctors operating from vehicles and a private ambulance. A mandatory kit list is required for the event. Rat Race publishes a GPX file for the course but instructs participants to follow the event arrows and signage over any downloaded files.

The route approaches Yr Wyddfa from quieter southern approaches, progressing via the Watkins Path and the South Ridge for ascent and the Ranger Path for descent. Entrants must be over 18 on the day of registration. A Trilogy option links this event with two other sea to summit ultras and awards a special gold Trilogy medal on completion of all three events.
