Yakima Skyline 50K overview

The Yakima Skyline 50K is a trail race near Ellensburg, WA held on April 17, 2027. The out and back course follows the Yakima Skyline Rim Trail in and above the Yakima River Canyon on lands that were part of the ancestral home of the Yakama people. The route traverses high desert, rainshadow country and is exposed to sun, wind, and heat.

The course gains about 9,200 feet and loses about 9,200 feet over mostly single track that ranges from smooth trail to very rocky and technical footing, with several miles on a rough ridge-top jeep road. Key features include long climbs and steep descents, rolling ridgelines, fields of wildflowers in season, and canyon and mountain views including Mt Rainier and Mt Adams. The terrain is rattlesnake country and runners are advised to watch their step.

Aid is provided at three full stations and one minimal station located roughly at miles 8.0, 15.5, 23.0, and 28.0. All runners must be able to carry at least 32 ounces of water and will be required to show bottles or a hydration pack at bib pickup. There are cut-off times at aid stations and runners who miss cut-offs will be removed from the course.

The start and finish are on private riverfront property where free primitive camping is available for small tents and small RVs with no water or power provided; portable toilets will be on site. Crew access is restricted and drop bag service is available only at the Buffalo aid station. Registration closes April 15, 2027. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
