Yakima Skyline 25K
The Yakima Skyline 25K is a trail race near Ellensburg, WA that follows an out and back route on the Yakima Skyline Rim Trail above the Yakima River Canyon. The course covers 25K with about 4,700 feet of elevation gain and the same amount of elevation loss.
The route is mostly single track with sections of rocky, rough trail and a few miles on a ridge-top jeep road. Runners move from the river valley up long sustained climbs, across rolling ridgelines, and back down steep technical trails. The course is exposed to sun and wind in a high desert, sagebrush setting and participants may encounter wildlife including rattlesnakes.
There are two aid stations: a full aid station at Roza (mile 8.0) and a minimal aid station (mile 12.5). Roza will offer water, electrolyte drink, simple foods, gels and first aid supplies; the minimal station offers water, electrolyte drink options, gels and snacks. All runners must be able to carry at least 32 ounces of water on their person during the race; failure to meet this requirement will result in disqualification. The overall cutoff is 8 hours and the Roza Aid Station cutoff is 1:00pm.
The start and finish are on private riverfront property near the Umtanum Creek Recreation Area. Race parking uses a gravel overflow lot for the recreation area; the event offers free primitive tent and small RV camping on site for participants, with no water, power or hookups.
