Yakima Skyline 25K : Ellensburg, WA
The Yakima Skyline 25K is a 25-kilometer out-and-back trail race held on the Yakima River Canyon near Ellensburg, Washington. The course gains and loses about 4,700 feet and begins in the river valley at roughly 1,300 ft above sea level before climbing to ridge-top terrain. The route is mostly single-track with stretches of rocky, rough trail and several miles on a ridge-top jeep road.
The race is run in exposed high-desert, rainshadow country. There is little shade, limited natural water, and the course can be hot, windy, and dusty. The route includes two major climbs and steep technical descents. The Roza Aid Station sits at mile 8 and a minimal aid station is at mile 12.5; the main aid station offers water, electrolyte drink, sandwiches, fruit, snacks, gels, basic first aid and menstrual hygiene products. Runners must carry at least 32 ounces of water on their person and will be checked at bib pickup; failure to meet this requirement results in disqualification.
No drop bags or crew access are allowed because of remote and rough access. Event parking is arranged near the Umtanum Creek Recreation Area with a short walk to the start area. Free primitive tent and small RV camping is offered on private start/finish property; there is no water or power at the campsite and portable toilets will be provided.
