Yakima Skyline 25K
The Yakima Skyline 25K is a trail race near Ellensburg, WA that follows an out and back route along the Yakima Skyline Rim Trail above the Yakima River Canyon on land that was part of the ancestral home of the Yakama people and associated tribes and bands. The course distance is 25K with approximately 4,700 ft of elevation gain and loss. The route starts near the river valley at about 1,300 ft and includes two major climbs, a high ridge top jeep road, steep technical single track, and rocky sections.
The course is exposed to the elements and conditions can be hot, dry, cold, or windy. Rattlesnakes may be present in this high desert sagebrush environment. There are two aid stations: a full station at Roza (about mile 8) and a minimal station near mile 12.5. Cutoff policies are enforced and an overall cutoff of eight hours is applied.
All runners must be able to carry at least 32 ounces of water on their person during the race; water will be available at the aid stations. Drop bags and crew access are not allowed due to remote road access. Well behaved, leashed dogs are permitted but the course can be difficult for dogs because of heat, rocks, and limited water.
Free primitive on-site camping is offered for tents and small RVs (maximum 25 feet) with portable toilets but no water, power, or hookups; nearby campgrounds and lodging are also available within a short drive. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
