Wye Valley Tunnel Run 2027
The Wye Valley Greenway opened on 1 April 2021 and this event is the first organised run to use the Greenway and the Tidenham Tunnel. The Greenways and Cycleroutes charity removed the old track, refurbished and lit the tunnel and resurfaced much of the route with a mix of compact stone path and tarmac. The Greenway is a shared use path for cyclists, walkers and runners.
The original railway ran from Chepstow to Monmouth. The last passenger train ran in 1959 and freight trains from nearby quarries continued until 1990.
The race starts at Wyedean School and follows the former rail path towards Tintern. Tidenham Tunnel is reached about 3 km into the course and is over 1 km long; parts of the route offer views along the Wye Valley. Runners follow set routes to their turn around points and then retrace their steps back to the finish at the station.
